What can I do to get my yorkie pup's ears to stand up? I have a 14 week old yorkie and his ears aren't standing up. When we first got him, they were sometimes up but they haven't been up in awhile. They seem to be very hairy. Is there anything I can do to make them stand up? |
HELLO!! Ok...I know that some people clip them up or what not but I did have a friend that constantly rubbed ONE ear and not the other so that only one year stood up and it worked. It has something to do the blood circulation through the ear. I mean it can't hurt to rub the ear right? I could be totally lying because I didn't do this myself my Zoe came with both ears up but I saw it with my friend so thats the best advice I can give. Good lUck!! |
I would shave 1/3 of her ear hair off. A new aquaintance and new yorkie owner brought her 13 week old Yorkie out and I shaved the ears for her. The next day they were both up. She was shocked. May not work that quick all the time, but it can work. I started shaving my puppies when they were 6 weeks old. |
Get rid of the weight that hair is producing by shaving the top third and they will probably pop up. Massaging is also good advice. |
I, as well, recommend shaving the tips of the ears. BUT it could be due to teething. when a pup is teething it's not unusal for an ear or both of them to flop. Most of the time they come to stand by themselves. |
i keep my Gracie's hair short on 1/3 of her ear and also massage them a lil every once and a while just very soft to get the blood circulating and that has worked for me her ears have been up for a few weeks now!!:animal-pa |
Well i have a yorkie book and it says to cute about 1/3 hair on his/her ears and use big clear tape on both sides of the ear leave it on for about 2hrs a day and that should help the ears to stand  ...But thats what the book said..I havent tried it personally... |
If there is a real problem and I always think ears down is a real problem. I shave the ears first at least half way or as far as the ears fall over. I cut a piece of paper bag just a bit smaller than the ear and I glue it to the inside of the ear with eye lash glue. I use a brand called Duo, you can get it on the internet. I just leave it there for about a week or so until it falls out. If the ears stand then good , if not redo it again for another week or so. Sometimes it is because of teething and sometimes it is just the ears. Stick with it and you will get them up. Yorkies with their ears up always look better!! Debbie Ray www.sumtoiyorkies.com |
So do I shave both the inside AND the outside or just the inside? Thanks everyone! |
Shave the inside, outside, and clip the sides. |
Actually, I have tried the massaging thing a few times and they already seem to be standing up more. To those who have tried this with good results, how often should I be doing this? Should I also clip or wait and see how well it does on massaging? I don't wanna clip and them have them look funny and out of place. :p |
It's standard grooming to clip and shave the ears in this manner - not just to get them to stand. I can't say I actually keep mine shaved completely, but I do trim around the edges and clip the hair short on both sides of the ear on the top of the ear. |
Punkin's ears flop - but when it's something really interesting her (especially the word treat or park) they both stand right up. |
Floppy is cute. We keep Lucy's hair long on her ears so they can't stand all the way up. She's adorable. We didn't get her to show or breed, just to love and spoil her. When she was a baby and her ears would start to pop up my husband would push them down. He loves her floppy ears. It's so cute I'm surprised we don't see more people doing this. |
