how do i make his coat nicer? 3 Attachment(s) Hi there i have remmie my first purebred yorkie and his coat is short, soft, thick andd cotton feelin, (cottony coat?) he is almost 5 months old, and he is a little thin on top, or it could be the color changing that makes it seem thin anyhow i wanted to know how to make his coat smoother, shininer and longer? i have groomax shampoo and condition and i also bought that cowboy magic shampoo the other day, i have used that on him and my yorkie mix with the silkier hair and hers looks and feels better than his. here's a pic of remmie hair at about 4 month old (dont mind the ears they are coming up little at a time) |
At 5 months you still have puppy coat...also looks like your kid might be a bit modified. The puppy coat will begin to brush out as the adult coat comes in in a cople months. BTW there isnt anything you can do to make it grow except wait! |
thanks what does modified mean? |
A lot of people swear by the Missing Link supplement for their dogs - supposed to help with skin and coat as well as a variety of other things. Do a search on here and you'll find lots of threads about it. (I plan on trying it out for Oscar as well - just have yet to find a store that actually carries the stuff!). |
i have used Missing Link on Cali for 2 months and I am really starting to see a diffrenece in her coat and skin. It is shinier and silkier and her skin is not as flakey. I din't think her coat would ever look this good. She is going to be 1 year old tomorrow. I highly recommend it. Petsmart sells is and you can get on lineas well. |
Petsmart and Petcetera here didnt have the Missing Link - which surprised me. |
Petco and Petpeople too...buy online (Petsmart Petco)if you can't find a store... |
"modified"? im guessing not purebred |
Yes, what is modified? I am curious... I have been using Missing Link, its GRRREAT! I bought it from Petco, and I HIGHLY reccommend it! You should see the coats on my pups! I really think FOOD is a big factor in coat and skin too. Since I switched to Solid Gold and Natural balance( holistic, all natural, no by products, only human grade), I have seen a 360 in their skin and coats. Its like they turned into different dogs! and yes, you can always buy Missing Link online, ebay, whatever! |
nope "modified coat" simply means not a pure silk coat has nothing to do with purebred or not! A modified is very thick, lacks luster (doesnt have the natural shine) tangles and matts very easy, very hard to maintain! hope this helps |
Thanks! I have been wondering about that! I wonder what Bubbles will have, its still pretty early to tell I guess. Her dad was completely silky- light silky, silver and some gold coat. He ALMOST looked like a silky terrior, but not quite. The mom on the other hand was I guess a modified, more cottony, and her coat stayed Black and tan also. Is one of these coats a more dominant gene? I am SOO curious to know how Bubbles will turn out. Her breeder said that the "majority" (she was a BYB, nice lady, but didnt pay much attention or keep in touch after they were gone like a great breeder usually does) of this pairs other litters came out silky, like the papa. But I wonder.......... |
do you know if royal canine yorkshire food is ok? ive been reading and i dont really see anyone using it. im using it. but is there something wrong with it? |

My little girl loves Innova puppy. Go on the Innova's site, email them and they'll mail you samples of both puppy and adult to see if yours will even like it. |
All the Yorkies I know are on "Royal Canin" & all the yorkie breeders swear by it Well the ones I know anyhoo:D My Vet also says its the best food for Yorkies.....Buy the kind especially made for Yorkies tho:) |
Look at that bushy hair! :D Girl, I'm feelin' your pain. My puppy had (has) very thick, curly, cottony (at this point) hair, and it got to be impossible to comb through. And strangely enough, the hair on her HEAD is fine and thin, and doesn't seem to be growing out. So her head always looked "too small" for her body to me, but as that puppy coat grew out....and out....she just started looking like too much of a CHIA PET! :eyeroll: I hated to do it, but I ended up shaving off all of her puppy coat, down to where the new growth was coming in. I miss her curls, but she looks SO cute with her little schnauzer cut, and hopefully the new texture coming in will be easier to care for! |
