I need quality grooming tools Can you please advise me on what brands to get for nail clippers, the kind of brush and comb I should get, pet harnesses that are best, clippers to buy, dog toothbrush brands, and anything else you think I may need. We get our pup this week on June 22, 2006. The clippers I bought were very cheap and I dont want to waste money buying poor quality supplies. thnks |

I bought a Chris Christensen brush and it was a big waste of money for me. The brush is just WAY too big and doesn't get through the matts. I prefer my little comb - not sure how to describe it... it is identical to the comb on here http://www.chrissystems.com/combs.htm but I bought mine at a regular old pet store for 5 dollars or something. Does the trick just nice. (Even if you were to get a CC brush, you'd still need a comb to do the smaller areas like their paws and face - especially the hair on their muzzle). LOTS of people rave about the CC brushes, but for me.. just wasn't worth it. FANTASTIC harnesses are buddy belts - they're expensive, but they're worth it. It's a step-in leather harness that comes in a wide range of colors. (www.buddybelts.com) It's really secure and doesn't go anywhere near the dog's neck. The Wahl trimmer is popular on here (they make them for pets and people) - small and safe to do the sanitary clipping, ears, and paws. |
I agree the normal size brushes are big - but they do sell small pocket brushes that are perfect for yorkies - :) For a puppy - they are pretty easy to brush with most everything - but after waiting 2 years to order from CC systems - I LOVE the brush I have.... |
i just ordered a harness from http://www.puppywraps.com/ she's a yorkietalk member. i use a 2sided brush with wire & soft but i'm going to get a slciker brush also. petedge.com does have lots of pet supplies and even bows for yorkies. you can get a catalog from them. |
More… Buy a really good shampoo and conditioner - conditioner makes a world of difference to your dogs skin/coat. I use Petsilk moisturizing shampoo and conditioner - smells lovely and makes Oscars coat super silky! My breeder suggested a finger toothbrush when I got Oscar, but I find it is just too big for his little mouth. He makes a big fuss when I try to brush his teeth so we are working up to the toothbrushing. I bought a toddler's toothbrush because it has a tiny head and softer bristles and I put beef flavored toothpaste deep into the bristles and hold it while he chews away at it - while he's doing that I try to brush as much as I can and wiggle it around. You can try www.petzlife.com if you want to try an alternative (I have purchased this as well... can't really attest to how well it works because I don't use it as often as I should, makes his breath smell nice though!). i love Safari brand grooming tools.. great quality and quite affordable.. Bio-Groom products like shampoos, conditioners, and de-tanglers are awesome as well.. :) |
