Pantene shampoo/conditoner products on Yorkies? Hey guys, I've been reading a here & there on the boards that some of you use human Pantene products to bathe their furkids. Can you tell me which ones are good to use if you've used them? I have Pantene at home & I was wondering if I would be able to use it on my furkids as well. Thanks guys! :D |
The ones I heard were good was Pantenes Sleek and shiny - and maybe the regular Pantene ? But you're right - some show breeders DO use Pantene |
I've talked to different vets about human shampoos for dogs, including baby shampoo and pantene, ect. and all 3 said the PH levels are too high for dogs and should only be used on humans. Even the baby shampoos are too strong for dogs. So I never used it again. Coco was itching like crazy when I used baby shampoo on her one time. :( |
IMO what works for one doesn't always work on another. If you find something that works for you then you souldn't change it. I know alot of people who use human shampoo on their furkids and have no problems. I sometimes use it on mine. I use tresemme and it works wonders. |
I have used human products on Reagan, not Pantene though, and while I don't think it makes her coat look as good as it does with what I am using now it never bothered her either. Her coat nor skin were dry, I've heard that long term it will dry out though, I used mine for at least 2-3 months and never noticed any itching or dryness. Actually I liked the way Redken products made her look more than some of the dog products I have tried. If you try it just watch, as you would with any product, and make sure it isn't drying her out. I totally agree with doggrooming though what may work for some might not necessarily work for all. Just look at the CC products so many people rave about it but there are a few that don't like it at all. |
I use Pantene deep fortifying treatment once a month on Kitty and she does fine with it. I leave it sit on her for the 3 mins and wash it out after her normal shampoo and conditioner. I find it helps keep her looking her best longer. This is stuff you're not suppose to use on yourself but once a week. I only use it on Kitty once a month. I've not had any problems with it except the time my daughter helped me wash it off and she didn't get all of it washed out. :aimeeyork |
I use Pantene Smooth & Silky at home. I'll try using it on the babies next time bath time rolls along. :) |
This is good to know, since I’m outta Ginger’s shampoo and she’s due for a bath Friday. I have plenty of Pantene. By the way, does anyone know about how long it takes to get a CC order? |

I also agree with doggrooming.. i use the CC systems and i'm very happy with it. when I do run out though.. I use human shampoo.. usually pantene the sleek & smooth or aussie dual combo one i really forget the name. but i do know that you shouldn't use pantene on your dog (or you for that matter) for long periods of time because it contains silicone which can really dry out your hair in the long run. I get my cc orders in within 3-4 days usually after order has been processed |
i dont remember when, but we had a discussion on shampoo products for dogs and someone said that Pantene is bad for you and humans because it kills the natural oils in your hair or something like that... |
I was using Aussie Moist shampoo and Pantene conditioner (the kind for dry hair).... She looked good at first, but then it totally dried her out! Her hair got brittle and started breaking and her skin was flaking! I'm not sure if it was the Aussie or the Pantene (probably both!) I picked up some doggie shampoo/conditioner from the store and after the first wash I already saw an improvement... Her hair was silkier and she didn't have as many flakes. Hopefully it'll totally clear up with the next couple baths. |
I use baby shampoo on the head and Earth Bath Oatmeal on the body. I finish up with Pantene Deep conditioner. Between baths, I use Pantene Leave-In conditioner for brushing. The Leave-In is great when they get static in their coat. My thinking is its the shampoo that strips the skin of natural oils but the conditioner is more of a moisturizer. What do you think? |
I have always used Pantene on Ella and I have wondered if it was ok to do. She has been fine with it and it makes her look and smell really good. Plus it makes her so soft. I had a doggie shampoo but it didn't smell good and was really knotty. I am using Tresemme at the moment and it is just as goods. I just got the cc ice on ice though so I will try that. |
[COLOR="Blue"]I've never used Pantene before on Oliver, but I have tried baby shampoo on the recommendation of our vet. I didn't really like it. It made his hair very stiff and hard to brush. Definitely needed a good conditioner afterwards. But, Dove Shampoo and Condioner works great. It makes him really soft and easy to manage, brushing is a breeze, and it not only smells great, it hasn't bothered his skin at all so far. Next time I'll try the Pantene. I'm always looking for new ideas. :aimeeyork [/COLOR |
