How do y'all...? ...shave / clip bottoms? I tried to clean up Abbie's bum area last night, and nicked her!! :cry8: I see people chatting about it so casually, like it's the easiest thing in the world. She will accept clippers around her ears - MUCH to my surprise!; but goes into hysterics if I touch her bum! |

Well at least you can use the clippers, Bailey freaks. Sometimes I have no problems and sometimes he won't deal with it for one second, depends on his mood, I usually try to give him a treat to distract him for a few seconds. Usually, I let my groomer do it, she says he's good, which I can't imagine. |
Well, we started with hair scissors; but, she was so squirmy hubby said "use the clippers". So, we moved onto the pet clippers - and she REALLY freaks with those, and we ended with the moustache trimmers I use on her ears. She was probably nicked with the pet clippers when she wriggled so much! :cry8: I'm afraid to trust any groomer with her - I've read / heard so many horror stories of pups getting injured in the hands of an impatient groomer  |
I use the moustache trimmers too. The way it works best for me is, I put her on the ground standing up then I'll put one of my feet/legs under her belly just in front of her back legs (I'm sitting on the ground too if you are wondering). This keeps her standing up and also it seems a litte harder for her to walk away like this. This also leaves both hands free I use one for the clippers obviously and the other I will kinda hold her tail up with along with all that hair. I will say I have nicked Reagan before too. I think as you get more confident you will get better and also be less likely to nick them. |
What direction are you clipping her hair?? The only thing you have to watch for is that no skin gets in the way. If used correctly you should not have any problems clipping her hair. You can also use a comb attachment which is safer and prevents knicks. |
I use sissors. I wait until they are sleeping while I brush them(they love to be brushed), then very carefully sneak the sissors there to trim. I used to use the clippers without getting real close to the skin. (use the guard). My husband would hold them for me. I never wanted to clip real close as I am afraid it will just irritate the skin. |
Hi, everyone Thanks for the helpful suggestions and support. Well, this first time was rather chaotic - with hubby holding a squirming Abbie, and Abbie reacting to the clippers - no wonder it wasn't successful! I think I'll just go the scissors and while-she's-sleeping approach :). |
