Won't keep bows in My 15 week old little girl just will not keep her ponytails / bows in. She will let me put them in with little or no problem; but five minutes later she's pulling them out. So between her and my other yorkie the bows don't stand a chance. I've tried giving her a treat afterwards and also distracting her to get her mind off of her hair. But nothing seems to work. Is this something they'll grow out of or do you have any ideas how to make it work? I try and put it up often so that she'll get use to it; but so far its not working. |
It's tricky when they're not used to them. The only help I can offer is make real sure the bow or band isn't too tight - or too loose. Try gathering just a little hair to start - this site can show you where to gather it - and good luck !! TOPKNOT HELP http://www.yorkies4me.com/topknots.htm |

I make a game out of it with Cali. I have all of her bows in a plastic compartment box and I say time to pick put your bow. She gets so excited and I let her nose in the box and then I pick out the bow and she sits real nice while I put it in. I started when she was about 4 months old and she would rub them out at first too. They do get use to them if you do it all the time. Also make sure the bows are samll so they don't notice them as much! |

How to get the bows in? So, what kind of bows do you guys use? Mine have the rubber bands attached to them (3 bands) Am I supposed to use all three? I can barely get a band in, much less get her to sit still to get another three in to make a bow stay in. I'm new at the bow thing and can't figure out whether I'm supposed to use the three bands together or one at a time. When I use one, it doesn't look right and she won't let me do anymore than that, she'll squirm away and at 2 1/2 pounds, she's tiny to try to deal with anyway. |
There are 3 bands in case one breaks - I only use ONE band on the bows with multiples. I'd suggest trying some El Cheapo bands first - www.petedge.com has great inexpensive bows that you can toss after they wear out. I bought 2 boxes of 50 and I still have some left. They're really easy to put in and get out. |
I have this problem too.. I think I started too late. I had bought all these pretty bows, and i took Ginger to a groomer to get a trim and told her to leave the bangs, but she cut it anyways (this has happened twice).. and it's taken me FOREVER to grow out the hair.. and now she has hair long enough to put up, but everytime i put a band in her hair.. she rubs it out and whines like no tomorrow.. and i make sure it's not too tight and not too loose, she just hates it.. i try to give her a treat.. but she hates the darn thing.. will she ever get used to this?! ever? she looks so darn cute with it in! |
sucks, doesn't it? mine won't wear them either! |
other yorkie takes them out We were going to a party Sunday and I wanted little Lexxie to look adorable. So I put her hair up in two little pigtails with cute little pink bows in each one. I kept her away for our little boy yorkie Bailey because I knew once he saw her he would tear them out. Well, we arrived at the party and everyone thought she looked just darling (for about the first fifteen minutes anyway). He tore them right out. What can I do? Its so frustrating. It is a chore getting them in and then when I do - they are right back out. They are such cute little babies but I just hope in time they'll learn to leave them alone once I've put them in. |
Maybe if you just use the rubber bands for a while until she gets used to the idea of having something in her hair. It's harder for her to rub out just a rubberband than it is a bow attached to one. And in the meantime, the little devil boy will get used to leaving her hair alone. And of course, every time you see him going after her hair, you have to discipline him as if he has really done something wrong or else he'll think it's some sort of new game. Let him know that he's not supposed to do that. |
