1st time... What age? 2 Attachment(s) Hi all, I was wondering at what age you first took in or groomed (trim ears etc.) your baby? Trix is 19 weeks and has the tips black but a grey head of hair. I would like to get her ears done but i'm afraid they will trim too much or who knows what. What would you do? Picts were last month so she is a bit longer now. I just love those fuzzy ears tho. :animal36 |
My puupy's first haircut/groom was last weekend. She is 5 months. She had ratty puppy black ends and blonde and silver roots. She did really well and looks so sweet! A lot of people and some groomers I have talked to say it is better to start grooming before they are fully grown, as they get used to it more easily. The only problem my lovely gromer had was that Holly kept trying to kiss her! Tell the groomer exactly what you want-even write it down or take in a picture.Holly's ears were only tidied a little.I wish i could post pics to show you before and after.I will try later on. |
Chachi was 5 months an Jewels was 4 months when they got their first groom. |

4 Attachment(s) I took Layla in a few weeks ago at 5.5 months. Here's some pictures of before and after! |
She's so cute with her bow and all! Was that her 1st time? Trixie's ears are so fluffy and full. I would love to see her all done up with a bow and all. |
Yeah, that was her first time. I was amazed they even got the bow in because she won't sit still for me! When I went to pick her up all the other dogs were normal looking and she was prancing around in her little bow and bandana, and she didn't want to leave! |
Awh!! I think they live for the attention. I know Trixie does. every time we go out she loves to show off to everyone and let them pet and admire her. She gets the attitude like "yep I'm cute - you know it" :P |
Cut She looks so cute. Love the before and especially the after. :D |
I had Topher in at about 20 weeks and he's due again to go in next week. My groomer believes (and I agree) that the younger they are, the better (within reason, of course!) as they get used to the grooming process. I didn't get much hair taken off, just a bit of a trim, but she bathed him and pampered him and did such a lovely job. He came out looking like a new man...er...yorkie!! lol So neat and handsome. Needless to say, they typical boy that he is, he didn't stay that way for very long!! :) I basically took him there, though, so he could start getting used to her, and thankfully, he was very well behaved and he adored her. |
First time grooming~ It is better for your yorkie if you start them at a young age.. That way they get use to the groomer, the use of clippers and everything else that comes with getting groomed.. The longer you wait the harder it will be on your yorkie.. If you have a groomer in mind call them and see if you can stop by with her just to have her ears trimmed.. That way she has time to get to know the groomer and you will feel more comfortable when you leave her to be groomed later on~ |
PetEdge/Wahl Super Pocket Pro http://www.petedge.com/ The above link will take you to the PetEdge site.. Look under Item# WA120, Wahl Super Pocket Pro.. They run $16.99 without shipping added.. They work perfectly for trimming yorkies ear tips, bottom of the feet and the potty area.. You can also purchase similar ones at PetCo, they are also made by Wahl and run $19.99.. Hope this helps.. |
pricing for grooming I'm having some trouble here getting this posted... Does your groomer charge the full amount just for a trim for your Yorkie? I have a Mini-Schnauzer too and for a full groom it costs around $42.00. Just wondering if trims are any cheaper. omega |
i just took my yorkie yesterday for her first time. She will be 4 months on Saturday. She did cry when I left her but she was fine after she got to know the groomer. The grommer washed and dried her, shaved her privates, back legs, trimed around her ears and eyes, shaved her belly and trimmed her feet and clipped toenails. When I went back and got her she looked so different and she was very happy to see me. The whole thing only cost me $25 i was surprised it wasn't more. It did take almost 3 hours but it was worth the wait,it was awful quite at the house though while she was gone |
at about 16 weeks i took bunjee to petsmart for their puppy package. they trimmed his feet and sanitation areas but did nothing for the face, ears, and body (opted for no face and ears), trimmed his nails, bath and dry. it was only $15, but i was seriously not happy with the experience and the result. i'd never take him back to petsmart again. at about 28 weeks, i took bunjee to a local groomer for a puppy groom. she gave him a bath, dry, trim and file nails, trim feet, ears, tummy and sanitation area, and put a little bow on his head. his face hair and body hair was left alone. it was $32 and well worth it. when he starts to get a full groom it'll probably be about $40 or $45. |
Reagan went in the first time at just over a year old. However I had been doing the basics around the house since she was about 4-5 months maybe, so she was used to it and they said she behaved very well. I use the small clippers for men that are used to touch up their beard I think. Anyway I use them to do her ears, bottom of her feet, and bottom and private area. You can tell them exactly how much you want done and maybe even tell them that you would "rather stay with her just to make sure she doesn't get to rowdy since its her first time" and just stay to make sure they don't do something you don't want done. Or just grab some trimmers and do her ears at your house yourself, its really simple. It cost me 19 dollars when I went in and I planned on giving him 5 tip but just went ahead and made it 6 to make the amount and even 25. They trimmed her beard, feet, ears, bottom and private areas, and cut the hair around her eyes(I suggest making it clear if you want this done or not, mine just did it and I wasn't planning on it although now I think its neater and I can see her eyes much better). They didn't touch the hair on her body nor did they pluck the hair from the insides of her ears. |
