Razor/Clipper Burns After Grooming
 
I have been going to the same groomer for my Biewers for 8 years and never had an issue. My male went a pretty long time without getting groomed because of the salons being closed due to Covid-19. This past Thursday he was groomed and I wanted him really short. A day or two later I noticed small scabs and redness around the right side of his jawline and side neck area. The scabs are falling off by themselves which shows healing is occurring. I have not seen him scratching at the areas but automatically knew it was from him being groomed.


I did not want to put anything on the area until I did some research. Since Aloe is hard to find right now I was advised that Witch Hazel works well. Have any of you had this happen and what was your GO-2 remedy to ease the irritation?

About three weeks ago my groomer trimmed my girls privates and had a little nick. She was constantly licking the area so I first put Neosporin plus pain relief on it. I also used Walmart brand Equate Burn Relief Gel with Lidocaine which really helped with the pain. Then I had to make a collar out of two inch noodles I strung wide two inch cotton lace through it then I tied it like a bow. I cut the noodles about a inch and a half when I put the lace through. In three days she was healed. Hope this helps. Susan

Witch hazel kind of burns tender, raw areas on me so don't know about using it on the de-scabbing muzzle, which is likely tender and raw under the scabs still. I'd tend to use the tiniest bit of Neosporin to help heal and soothe clipper burn w/out the burning and hopefully prevent any secondary infection setting in. Here's a link I found recommending anti-itch cream and possibly antibiotics, vetting.

I hate to hear of groomers clipper burning a dog. It's so important to get a groomer who you can trust. Dont just drop them off at a pet store and hope all is well. Get some clippers and it yourself. That's what I do. I take them to the vet for trimming nails. I also have a home groomer. When needed. Just be careful who grooms your precious dog!
