Suggestions for a home groomer. I am starting to read, watch videos, and invest in some quality grooming tools to groom my female yorkie. She is 1.5 years old and my wife wants to do what some call the Teddie Bear cut. The problem is between her eyes and on her nose the hair is wild and I'm not sure how to tackle it. Would I be better off cutting those areas real short or letting them grow for a while. Any suggestions for those with experience is greatly appreciated. |
We have two dogs that I keep rather short and Abby who needs a bit of hair to look nice- she has a fine silky coat that looks choppy if cut short. She has a lot of whiskers so a little extra length looks nice. Ziva has a close fine coat with hair very close around her eyes- she looks cute and expressive with her hair cut very short and puppyish. Mitzi has a sturdy head of hair that could be grown and pulled back but my daughter is a bit busy to keep up with her hair care every morning- so I cut her face short also. I think it takes time and a few cuts to find what fits their features- just like people! |
It's really a personal preference...& dependent on the hair style. I have one in a puppy cut year round & he has a very short snout/ muzzle, so I keep the hair between his nose short. When it grows out, the hair starts poking his eyes & it causes tearing. It also looks nice grown out, the weight of the hair will help keep it down. I have 3 w/top knots & longer between the nose hairs. Once cut, it's VERY hard to grow out. Causes lots of tearing & along w/that, red tear stains which is more visible on lighter faces. Takes lots of patience (don't reach for those scissors! LOL) & daily face wipes, sometimes multiple x's a day. Good Luck w/whatever you choose! |
1 Attachment(s) Here is a picture of my Sophie girl that I'm not sure what to do for her. She has some wild hair on the nose and right beetween her eyes that I don't wether to let keep growing or cut real short with thinning shears or something. What do you guys think. |
