For those of you who have boys in medium/long coats How do you prevent their coat from smelling like pee? My boy gets a bath and starts smelling like pee on day three. His hair is medium length and I would like to grow it longer but with this I'm now thinking of chopping it off to see if that works in diminishing the smell :( I have tried a couple of things that didn't work. I have cut his hair from his belly up to where his rib cage starts. You can't tell his hair is cut until you flip him over. I bought a waterless shampoo that while it does take away some of the odor and helps him last 4 days or sometimes a week until his next bath it doesn't help too much. |

I keep the underside around his private area trimmed real short so that when he pees it does not get all over his hair .. Seems to work so far . |
1 Attachment(s) I do keep Deuce's belly trimmed and right now I have his body shaved but left his legs long. He still gets it on the inside of his legs. When he pees he first pics up one leg then switches so he sometimes wets both of them, actually just a drip or two. When he comes in I sometimes give him a wet paper towel wipe so he doesn't smell like pee. But whats worse is when he does his sniff and pee around the yard in the morning to see who visited last night. Then his face smells like cat pee. Yuck!!!! I guess boys will be boys. Who would think that a cute little guy like this likes to smell dirty???? |

Yes I also trimmed my boy's underside but he still gets pee sometimes on his skirt and even his legs. I guess that can't be avoided lol |

Joey's breeder shows and she said if you have them in a longer coat, you really need a pee sting. I keep it even though there hair is short. It's a little bit of hair coming from the penis that's about an inch long. It directs the flow of urine so it doesn't splatter all over the place. It's really worked for Joey and when we got a new boy who had no string, that's the first thing I changed, his urine is quite strong and this made a real difference. Read more about it here. "Pee Strings" work!! |

Max does have a pee string now. He didn't when I brought him home 5 months ago, his previous owner shaved it. Nancy, I have read about what you mentioned with the pee string directing the flow and I have been letting it grow. |

I hope you find something that works . I guess Oscar is just a neat pee er :D He holds his leg up so high it looks like he might fall over :D |
When Mokis hair was long .He got wiped each time after and light wet washing with a cloth everyday. Only way to keep them clean. But he had a shaved cut now. |
