Is anyone having trouble with doggy dandruff? I have been only bathing winnie every 4 weeks right now because the cold weather is forcing us to run the heat way more than usual....and she was getting very itchy dry skin when I was bathing her weekly....so I went to every two weeks and now once every 4 weeks. She still has "dandruff" on her back right before her tail....I've tried coconut oil which of course makes her greasy looking but I don't really care because it lessens her itching....and while her hair is very soft she still has flakes! Any suggestions? |
My Azrael is the "flakiest" little thing I have ever seen in my entire life, and she stinks and has Frito feet. There is no way I can get thru an entire week without bathing her. I've taken her to the Vet. so many times over this problem and all they can do is take scraping to test, put her on different shampoos and once gave her medication to take. Nothing!!! Now, I give her fish twice a week which I have noticed a decrease in the amount of flaking. I bake cod, salmon, perch or anything else I can buy or my husband catches in the ocean. She can't take fish oil. It itches her to death. Isn't that odd!!! I have also just ordered a shampoo that (someone that had the exact same problem with their dog swore by this shampoo) hopefully helps end this problem. If it adds to the healing process I can let you know if you want. I have noticed she doesn't itch if I keep her hair cut super short on her body. She is a cotton coat and it's extremely thick against her body otherwise. I hope you can find a solution to help your baby. I know how worrisome it can be. :( |

We also put out dishes of water on our floor vents to put more moisture in the air. That helped the most. We have to clean and refill them at least once a day. Bathing can be drying, but it also helps slough away dead skin. Bathing too little can actually create problems just as much as bathing too often. If you have a warm room for baths, try to use water that is not too hot. Hoping your baby's problem is just weather related. |
Our vents unfortunately are on the ceiling lol but we have humidifiers because our youngest has asthma. This last bath she had a few days ago I made sure I rinsed her extra well which she quite enjoyed the extra massage she got with my fingers as I was rinsing ! I do think it is just our crazy weather up and down here....I'll keep up with the coconut oil for now since it does help her not to itch. I think the flakiness bothers me more than her haha but thanks for your responses! |
