Help with beard and RAW feeding Do any of you feed RAW? I feed a premade RAW and Trinkets beard gets gross. I usually just stick it under the faucet and clean it but wondering if anyone had any tricks to help keep it out of the bowl or tips on cleaning? |
I don't feed completely raw but add a little on top of the kibble so I know about the gross lady beard after eating. For some reason Molly's beard just requires a wipe down with a wet paper towel and she never sticks. Macy on the other hand ends up with food stuck in her beard all the time. I keep a squirt bottle (use a plastic picnic ketchup bottle) under the bathroom sink and after eating I squirt warm water around her bottom lip and in the hair on her chin. If I don't do this the food gets stuck and becomes hard and smells where the hair meets her bottom lip. |
My little guy eats Primal Raw frozen one ounce cubes. And he has a long beard, so I know what you mean about the nasty, crusty, smelly. Maybe I'm just lazy but its a lot easier for me to cut each cube into three pieces and toss them to him one piece at a time. He absolutely LOVES the food and will catch each piece in mid air and down the hatch it goes. When I put it on a plate he gobbles it so fast its gone in 60 seconds anyway. It took me longer to wash his face than it took him to eat the food! Not an ideal answer to hand feed a dog that doesn't need to be hand fed, but I got so tired of him always having a dirty face or a wet face from washing it! Diana |
1 Attachment(s) You need a snood! Here's one I have for my dog who eats home cooked food. I buy on etsy from dogdaydesigns. Attachment 404393 |
I hand feed them. Yes...It's alittle work but i 'd rather wash my hands instead of 3 faces!! |
I have never heard of a snood, how cute! Thank you everyone. She chews on her beard if I do not get it cleaned fast enough |
Try smaller bowls...I use the small pyrex custard glass bowls, it's a perfect size! The smaller bowl keeps the hair out of the bowl & food, so the beard doesn't get wet. Quote:

1 Attachment(s) You can also try banding the sides of the beard, like this: Attachment 404445 |
Well I tried the smaller bowl and she just pulls it out and eats it :/ I did a make shift snood and was wondering how you keep it on them as she is not having it :-( |
I will try banding next. Thanks |
