Razor burn
 
Max and Teddy have been growing more hair on their undercarriage and inner back legs as they grow older. They had been naturally naked in all the right places.

Now they require more trimming. I have been using a Wahl mustache trimmer, which I use on their ears and paws too.

Poor Teddy is getting razor burn on his sensitive skin. What am I doing wrong?

Is that people trimmer? What's the blade length? Anything higher than a #30 will be a close shave, that might be the problem. Are you oiling the blade? Or maybe the blade got dull over the years?

It is a people trimmer. No blade attachment. I have been oiling it, but it probably is dull.

Do you shave bellies to the skin, or use an attachment?

Is it something like this? Wahl Home Products | Battery Beard 9906-717

It looks like it has a #30 or #40 blade. That's surgical shave, very close. I use a #10 blade against the grain for their bellies & sanitary areas. #10 is 1/16" cut, #30 is 1/50" & #40 is 1/100".

Maybe Teddy is just xtra sensitive...might need to get a clipper that has different blade lengths. I have this one in pink & love it. It has 5 blades in 1, sizes: 9, 10, 15, 30, and 40. For blades, the higher the #, the shorter the cut. Also comes w/2 rechargeable batteries & a charging station.

I didn't know the blades also affect the closeness of the shave. I thought it was all in the attachments.

Happened to Gucci as well, once. I just use a guard every time now.

Is a guard the same thing as comb attachment? if you have a small/ short guard, that would work since your guys are in full length coat.

Yes, comb attachment. I used the smallest one and it appears to have solved the problem. The belly hair is nice and even now too because I can run it directly against the skin without worry.
