Pedi-Paws, Peti-cure and the like (Dremmels) I'm trying these things again. Toto does not seem to be as scared of them as Uni. He has two pinky toes on the front paws that have a deformity and they set back on his hand so the nail never touches the ground to file itself down, also he has dew claws. So I have to constantly be aware of how long those nails are. He isn't too scared of clippers, but I am! He's ok w the Dremmel, but how do you keep the hair from getting caught in it?! Also it seems like you have to switch hands on either paw bc the Dremmel only turns one way. At least the one I have does only one way. Tips? |
You can put a sock on the foot and poke the nails through it. Sometimes I just hold the hair back with my fingers though. My Pedi Paws only turns one way, and I hold it backwards bc I like to trim the opposite direction, from the pads away from the foot, not in towards the foot. |
I keep Tibbe's foot hair clipped too short to get caught and wrap him in a towel, taking only one leg out at a time. I use the Gentle Paws on Tibbe twice a week for about a minute or two and keep his nails nice and short. |
Good idea about the sock! Toto has long hair. Tho I trim the hair shorter around the paws, it still somehow gets managed to get stuck, esp with the nails that are set back. |

I just hold Kiko's hair out of the way. Something to keep in mind is not to hold it on one spot too long. The friction creates heat and can be uncomfortable or even painful. |
I've tried the nylon stockings.... didn't work for us. No matter how small of a slit I make for his nails to slip through the nylon, it just keeps getting bigger and bigger allowing hair to eventually poke through. I had to make one slit for each nail. What is working for us is using Vetrap flex bandage, the ones that comes in a variety of colors. When I stretch the bandage to slip his nails through the slit, it flexes back snuggly around the nail. The bonus is the light stickiness... great for holding back hair even if the slit gets bigger. I also like the texture of the bandage, much easier to work with compare to slippery nylon. |
Oh good idea too! |
2 Attachment(s) I use the footies they give out when you get admitted to the hospital, inside out. Tink's toenails are huge so I used a knitting needle to open up a hole... no cutting involved: Attachment 398171Attachment 398172 |
