Triiming the Nose -help So, I have a cut that I am wanting to try out on Mandie, and I actually think I can do it myself if I can just find a video or set of still pics to help with the nose. How do you do that upside down "V" on the nose/between the eyes? Is it done with a trimmer or with scissors? Does anyone know of a video or picture tutorial on this? I just spent an hour on youtube and cannot find what I'm looking for... |
When I have seen it done at Petco and Petsmart, the groomers use scissors. I don't know of a video to show you. They steady the head with one hand under the chin. |
Thanks, Kristin. That is the way that makes sense. I am still on the fence. I've been cautioned that it is a lot to keep up with and it might not grow back right. I don't know.I really like the cut I found, but it is so hard when you worked so hard to grow it lol |
Gasp loll! Are you SURE you wanna cut between the nose? Cuz it's gonna be a pain in the butt to grow out...but here's a vid: I do not use clippers on their eyes bc if they keep their eyes open, it can scratch their cornea. I use the small nose ear scissors like this: https://www.petedge.com/zpetedgemain...c-locale=en_US On the vid, she's demonstrating w/a huge curved shear...I do not use curved shear in that area, you'll want to use a straight one, preferably ball tippped. The 4" scissor I linked also works great for trimming the tips of the ears. Also, on the vid, she has the scissor pointing down for the other side of the eye...I point the scissor upwards for both sides to get a perfect upside down v. Do whatever is comfortable for you. |
If I could figure out how to resize a pic on a tablet, I'd show ya the cut I am considering. Still not sure though... Thank you for that video and info! It is what I was looking for :) Edit: Ok, I put it in an album on my page.. YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community |
Wow, that's really different. Would you do the body shaved, too? That dog seems to have really thick hair. Neither of my 2 would have a poofy face like that because their hair's not thick enough. Good luck & keep us up to date with your decision! |
Yeah, the whole idea came from shaving her body. She really hates putting on clothes because of her hair. Especially in the winter due to static...it has freaked her out to the point she fights it now. Then, it would also be cool for her during our Alabama summers. Again, I am still not decided. I love her hair...just trying to figure out if I am being selfish for keeping it...lol |
I think her hair would be thick enough. She had a really short cut when we got her. As, here.. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...ctureid=122009 |
I'd try to get the muzzle shape without cutting the hair by her eyes first, if it doesn't work you can always go back and cut it. |
I ended up cutting Prince's hair around his eyes just because he is an old man and I wanted to make his grooming as quick, simple and pain free as possible and he hated wearing pony tails. In fact, he refused to keep the pony tails in....so clipping that hair short seemed like it was the best option. I use a 8.5 clipper blade around Prince's eyes. I also use it on the pads of his feet. It's like 1/2 the size of a regular clipper blade so it's a lot easier to maneuver safely. With the clippers, I follow the way the hair lays both underneath his eyes and around his eyes, going with the grain of the hair. I also use regular scissors and thinning shears to trim around his eyebrows and give him bangs. If your pup doesn't like to be groomed or wiggles at all when you trim their face, I wouldn't suggest doing it...and unless you plan on keeping it up, I wouldn't suggest doing it. You have to keep up on it all of the time or the hair will poke them in their eyes. I touch Prince's up about every 2 weeks...and I'd never even bother to try it on Ricky because he wiggles way too much. BTW...once you cut that hair, it takes forever to grow out and it's annoying for both you and your pup. The hair gets in their eyes...it's always wet and crusty because it's too short to put in pony tail. When I got Ricky, his foster mom had just scissor cut his face and I am still trying to grow the hair out around his eyes over 6 months later. |
1 Attachment(s) Yippie you want the Korean cut!:D You don't need to cut the hair between Mandie's eyes & by the nose on top @ all. Keep her top knot, just cut her muzzle like ShowGirlLola mentioned. I cut Mimi's muzzle/beard short & left her ear hairs long. I didn't round out the muzzle short bc that's high maintenance, need to trim it up every 2-3 weeks. Here's Mimi's most recent pic. Attachment 396221 I wish I can smooth out those hairs around her mouth w/thinning shears but she hates scissors! I need to quickly chop it off bc she starts freaking out & not let me do anything.:p Here's a link w/a bunch of Korean style haircuts: https://www.facebook.com/joypia/medi...4798517&type=1 |
Thanks you guys! Jenny, I didn't know it was called that. Cool! Hmmm, ok, I will start out with leaving her nose alone and see how that looks. :) |
