Why doesn't her top knot hair get long? 3 Attachment(s) Hey ladies! So I've noticed that the hair on top of Toki's head doesn't seem to get very long and I'm not sure if it's because I'm not caring for her hair properly or what. It never seems to get longer than a couple of inches. I comb the hair on her face with a flea comb or the mustache comb and use little plastic elastics from the drug store for children's braids...her beard seems to grow pretty well so I wonder if I'm breaking off the hair on top of her head when I tie it up or take out her hair ties. The hair of my sister's yorkie top knot would get so long and hang to the side of her head like a little graduation tassel. But Toki's doesn't ever seem to get past the feather duster stage...it also seems kinda thin. Any tips on a type of shampoo/conditioner or appropriate hair ties? Is the flea comb damaging to hair? I have some pictures to show how long her top knot gets and the type of hair she has...I'd appreciate any advice :) |
Toki is absolutely adorable. Could be genetics. Max is a hair monster, and Teddy has less. They are brothers, but genetically programmed differently. You could try using Vellus Satin Cream, which is a great leave in conditioner that exhibitors say promotes hair growth. At the very least, it prevents breakage. The small jar is more than adequate. I use orthodontic rubber bands to tye. Can get from a friend with braces or get online. They are great. Won't pull hair out. Zoey is a little gem when putting them in and out. I also use a topknot dressing.it is fabulous. Show style freeze..it's called There's a lot to be said about Good hair products too. I switched to Chris Christensen line and love it, coat dressing, shampoo and cream rinse.......also espana silk protein detangler is so nourishing for their hair. You notice the first time you use it. |
I'm going to try that leave-in conditioner. And I do think I may have to get different types of bands that don't grasp her hair so much...I've considered little scrunchies because I feel like they'd be less damaging but her hair is just not thick enough to hold them in. Thanks for the suggestions! |
Do you cut the band off w/band scissors? Bc I do & hardly any hair is on the snag free bands, I use the one for children too. Or you can always get some hair extensions, I think Toki will look so fab in this (#7)! Honestly I think it has more to do w genetics than any product in the world. Same w me. I have tried everything. There's no product in the world out there changing the fact that I have thin sparse hair w no volume. What can I say like mommy like daughter. I'm taking about me and uni of course. |
After trying a ton of rubber bands, clips, scrunchies and barrettes I bought a bag of the new rubber bands for the loom bracelets that is all the rage. It cost $1.99 for a bag of 200 - cheap enough for me to snip the band at the end of the day rather than try and get it out without pulling. I figured that the worse that could happen is that bands are not soft and hard to manage. Best bands I have ever used (and we have had Yorkies for 15 years). I am buying a bunch of bags in case this craze ends and I won't be able to find them again ;) |

1 Attachment(s) Toki looks so much like my ZoE...they could be twins! I agree with the other posters that say it's genetics. I have tried all kinds of products on Zo, that worked great with my last yorkie, but they just don't have the same effect. ZoE's hair is just much thinner and breaks easily, so she has a mini feather duster on the top of head still at 3 years old. |

Ortho rubber bands look good but are not as soft and pliable as the loom bands. Tried those as well. I am buying up bags of these bands every time I go to the supermarket :) Got a bag of 600 for $2.49 on Sunday. Much easier to use and much easier to get out of her hair....snip!!!!! |

I could not believe those sneakers. I can not see any pup actually walking in them. They look like baby sneakers |
