Fluffy to stringy in less than 5min...HELP Tyler is 3 mos old. He has very fine hair. I brush him every day, right after brushing he looks fluffy and handsome. Within five minutes his hair goes stringy and he looks like I never brush :( Any suggestions on how to keep his coat looking fluffy???Thanks:aimeeyork |
1 Attachment(s) When my Max was a puppy, he looked like the Muppet's Animal most of the time :D: Attachment 394510 What products are you using? There are many things that can affect the hair: products, weather, water quality. We are fighting dry hair here right now. It might be that you just need a good conditioner. |
1 Attachment(s) It can sadly but simply be genetics. Products can help, so can good quality food, adding omega 3's as a supplement. I give my guys unsalted sardines from Trader Joe's (1-2 x's a week) & Beams from the honest kitchen, they're dehydrated catfish skins (once a week b4 bath time). Princess had very scraggly hair, I tried growing it one time & it would break off @ the ends, never reached the floor. I brush it, 5 mins later she looked like a mop! Attachment 394549 She has very thin hair that doesn't tangle. Sometimes she leaves klumps of hair on my bedding, almost like she's shedding. She has enviro allergies & I stopped giving them chicken & her hair has greatly improved. She has winter nose in this pic & also lost a lot of hair on her nose. She even got thyroid tested & skin scraped multiple x's w/cytology but it always came back as bacterial, things they can get from plain grass (says vet). I've been keeping her in a puppy cut. Now her hair has greatly improved, no more shedding so we'll be growing it again this winter. Like Kristin mentioned, a good conditioner is a must, esp during the winter months! Quote:

Cherry is like that, too. She definitely doesn't have that super full hair that a lot of puppies have. Hers looks super stringy around her face! |

He always made such a mess of himself playing and snuggling with grandpa. Quote:

Thanks everyone! 1 Attachment(s) First, as of right now I have been using an oatmeal puppy shampoo and Perfect coat conditioner. I just ordered some Splash and Shine to try. I also will be trying Espree. We have very cold weather now, we heat with wood, so it's very drying for all. Max is adorable :animal-paBjh..what a beautiful coat...Oh and I love the Serenity prayer! Mimimomo..your guys are too cute:animal36 Cherry...what a love bug :aimeeyork:love:I going to attempt to attach a picture. |
He is adorable. Just be patient with his coat. It does look like it will be a silky coat. What are you feeding him? Diet is also very important to having a good healthy coat. I don't recommend dog foods that contain corn or soy. |
His hair looks A LOT like Cherry's! I'm assuming as it gets longer, and the adult hair fills in, it will start to look less scraggly. He's adorable! |
He's a cutie! I have the same problem with Hannah. She will be a yr. old on Friday and it seems like her hair is getting thinner. The only cut she's ever had was to keep it out of her eyes since she hates bows. She also gets very oily quickly. I have been using Dawn or baby shampoo and am going to change. If someone could suggest a shampoo & conditioner that can be purchased at Petsmart or Petco that would be good. Yup fluffy to stringy is what I get too! |

What kind of Shampoo & Conditioner are you using for this South Texas Humidity?? And what are you feeding?? Just curious...I have the same problem with my 1 yr. old (well yr. old on Friday). |

"Fluffy to stringy in less than 5min" is Joels life story haha, but he's a cotton coat so he's a fluffy mess most of the time:p |
What a cutie, his eyes are saying "Don't worries Mummy I dont mind my fluffys either way, but you can brush me again as long as I gets a treat" |
