Clipper Blade Question~ I am wondering what clipper blade size I need to get to give my old guy a tight shave?? Right now, I am using a #5 and it's great for a puppy cut, but it doesn't get the legs tight enough. I used to shave my cocker spanial with a 10 blade but my mom said a 10 blade was too much for this breeds single coat. I have either a 8 or 8.5 blade and the clipper blade itself is much smaller than a regular blade. Right now, that's what I've been using to trim my boys pads and their bum hole, tummy's and pee areas, but i have yet to take it down their back to see what it would look like. So...what size blade is good for a body shave?? |
There has just been an entire thread titled something like "Want to groom at home?".....it covered this very topic, but several of the groomers on here, as well as people that already do their own grooming....I shave my dogs all down with a #10....safe and a close cut! but I am NOT a groomer! I took the advice of the goomer from that other thread, and I have ordered a #7FC.....NOT a skip tooth, what is also used to remove flesh and body parts if you dont know what you are doing..... |
1 Attachment(s) I use a 7fc on Jada and Bogie's body. I also clip against the hair growth for a smooth finish. Attachment 393862 |

Have you tried brushing all the leg hairs up & out & running the #5F/FC? It should get it neat & short. You can do that w/the body too if it looks choppy, brush the hair against the grain. If you want it shorter, you can go against the grain, but I wouldn't use anything higher than a #7F/FC to do that. Using a #10 blade on the body has it's bad points, but it's also a personal preference & it might be ok for the thicker soft cottony hair. 1. they can get sunburn, esp if the pup has lighter pink skin. 2. they can get clipper burn. |

I think the 8.5 is an Oster. I am going to try to brush the legs up to see if I can get a better cut with the 5 blade. I may try the #10 once it gets warmer out. |
