Puppy ears. I've been shaving about 1/4 of the tip of Gunners ears. But, when I look at all the breeders and pups online and here, seems like they shave more. He has a lot of coat, will the weight bring the ears down? Also, how do I know how much of the ear to shave, is there some kind of pattern to go by? Thanks so much. |
This vid shows ear tipping using a peanut trimmer @ 2:52 I use blunt tipped scissors to cut the hair on the edges & use my thumb as a guide. If you're using natural light, direct sunlight will show exactly where to cut on the edges, you can see the skin & where the hair starts. As for pattern, there's really none...I just trim the top tip of the ear flap 1/3. Trimming 1/3 or 1/4 is personal preference. If you're concerned about his hair weighing down his ear, then trim more off. For those that have folded ears, trimming the whole ear will help. |

My gal Ruby has very thick hair on her ears and still at the age of 4 , I still need to cut or shave them or they will get weighted down and flap around. Just be very careful when doing them and the longer you do them the better behaved your pup will get. |
I found my old oster finishing trimmers. I think I need a new blade, but I think those will work well. He will get used to having them done, I'm sure. I'm just not 100% on how to trim them. I know I will not use scissors, I would be too afraid he will move, but so far he looks okay. |
