I'm going to do it myself, but I need to start grooming Buster and Maggie myself, I love my groomer but she is now boarding dogs and Maggie stresses really bad when they bark. I've been watching videos on YouTube but it seems like all of the clippers are loud. Any suggestions for quiet clippers? Also, is there a list somewhere of the different types of scissors and clippers I will need? The videos are good at showing how to cut but not so good at what you need. |
I started with a pair of very small scissors and nail clippers. I learned to groom by using a scissor technique,then purchased shears/clippers. Mine are made by Wahl and I have several combs to attach for different depths for the hair. Because Mina's face is kept long,I also own some time hair clips,alligator style to clip her longer hair out of the way and that part of her gets scissored still. I trimmed a little here,a little there instead of jumping in with both feet. My dogs have learned to trust me and Ive learned to trust my judgment on when and how much to cut. Good luck! |

The professionals uses straight shears, but I learned w/curved & love it, much easier too. I use it to trim the hair around their paws, legs, face. I also have a small blunt nosed scissor to trim the edge of their ears. My grooming school instructor told us that it's not necessary to spend hundreds of dollars on scissors bc once you drop it, it's never the same, the alignment goes off. Plus I've cut myself so many x's when I 1st started grooming, that I was so glad I didn't have super sharp shears. I only use economy shears like fromm. It's sharp, cuts very well & it's inexpensive, so if I drop it, can replace it w/out worry. |
