Girl Parts Problem I feel terrible.....when I give baths I always make sure I put shampoo on the stomach and rub around the girl parts and rinse, rinse, rinse. I've noticed Macy licking her girl parts alot so I finally put on my glasses and I am grossed out at what I see. Her little girl part is covered in brown specks at the base. Did I miss how to clean girl parts in a Yorkie 101 care guide????? I put some of her shampoo on a Q tip and rubbed the Q tip around the base where all the brown stuff was. I still didn't get it all. What is this stuff and why is it so hard to get off? I am guessing it's urine and something else mixed in. It isn't flea dirt because I haven't seen any fleas on her. What do you have to do to keep the girl parts clean? |
funny you say this i noticed the same thing on keylo last night as she was licking more than normal ........and im not sure what it is i assume urine stain also but mine came right off with a warm cloth...i didnt even have to use their shamphoo on it. there wasnt a ton but enough for me to take notice and obviously her also. so maybe its different not sure. hope someone else will chime in. |
 You might want to check your little lady for fleas. This sounds like it may be flea dirt. Is there any way you can post an X-rated pic :D? |
Macy's is terrible. I need to do it again tomorrow but I didn't want to make her sore. I tried the warm washcloth but that didn't do anything I had to resort to a Q tip. She is potty pad trained so it isn't anything that she got from peeing in the grass. I feel terrible.........I don't know how long she has been this way. |

My Zada got those when she was around 3 years old and she's now 7 and still has the discoloration. I have no idea what it is, but it doesn't wash off at all. |
Well,........ I didn't get a chance to get a picture of Macy's girl part. I was showing my DH and asking him what he thought it was and he held her up and I cleaned her with some of her tearless shampoo on a Qtip and rinsed her well with warm water. It was disgusting but most of it is gone now. I'll just have to keep checking her a couple of times a week. I think it was a mixture of urine and saliva from her constant licking. It was in the crease all the way around the base of her girl part. I haven't seen her licking at all since we cleaned it. Do most people clean the girl parts as part of their grooming? I feel so bad for not catching this sooner. She had to be uncomfortable and itchy. |
Ok, ok, so now you've all got me worrying if Princess Sophie has the same thing. I can't think about it right now but will be checking in the morning before her bath. I can't stand uncleanliness. Ugh!! |
I don't know if this is true, I'm just repeating what my groomer told me. That it's a sign of an infection, sort of like a yeast infection we get. Annie B use to get this and I, like you, thought I just wasn't cleaning her well enough. I've been watching Gracie Ruth closely, she's 5 and hasn't had this issue yet. But if I see it, I'm taking her to the vet to have her examined. So just a thought, maybe talk to your vet about it. |
TeresaM, Thanks.......We have a vet appointment tomorrow for something else and I am going to mention it to him. HUMMMMMMM......my groomer had no idea what it was when I asked her. But, my groomer did point out that her toenails have something that looks like a combination of dirt and oil in the hair where the toenails meet her skin. It almost looks like tar. She also has been known to have Frito Feet. I have been soaking her feet in warm water mixed with a little Dawn or vinegar to see if it helps. So far no progress, wonder if that is Yeasty Feet??? |

I hope someone will be able to find out what this problem is? I checked Princess Sophie and she's fine. Soft pink girlie parts but I would love to know what it is in case we encounter it. This would be good info to have. |
Went to the vet yesterday and it's not a yeast problem or flea dirt problem. He said if she is licking herself alot, it's a combination of urine and saliva build up. It's a circle where the more she licks, the more she itches which causes her to lick more because she itches more. He suggested to try and keep clean and as dry as possible. I came home and cleaned her again with a Q tip with some of her shampoo on it and her licking has almost quit completely. |

I also use a baby wipe on them after they have gone potty. |
I do keep the hair on the end of her little bug trimmed short when I cut her nails and groom her. It's all part of our routine. The girl will lay spread eagle on the couch for a bug and belly trim, it's so darn funny. I do keep it cut so the urine doesn't run down the hair and on down the side of her leg. Hope this helps. |
