Should I cut or grow Galen is six months old and 3 lbs. 5.2 oz as per the kitchen scale soon will be going to get neutered. I was wondering since he has not had a full hair cut yet, only cut private areas. Should I give him a full cut before he goes in. I want to grow his coat out but I don't want him to silly. What is your thoughts? |
I was growing out both girls hair when they got fixed. I say grow it out! I have never owned a boy but don't think you would have to cut his hair. Maybe someone with boys will be more helpful! |
Tough decision because I love both full coats and puppy cuts, and variations. I'm no help. :) |

When Rufus got spayed I only trimmed his private parts. The incision is very small (between his penis and his testicular). I don't think it's necessary to cut his hair. If you want to grow it just grow it :) What you will need to keep in mind is if you want him to weer a cone or a onesie. If you choose for the onesie keep it mind that he will have to weer it for atleast 2 weeks (until his check-up) and his hair can get all tangly :) |

You are welcome :) |
I only trimmed ears and private parts and nails when Pixie was a pup. Her first real hc was this yr and I asked her to trim it and the groomer cut it so stinkin short. I hate it and I will never cut it again except for a shaping up. Pixie's coat is fine and it doesn't grow fast so I am thinking a good yr to get it back to where it was. |

When Rufus got spayed they shaved a very small spot on his front right leg, you could barely see it |

Keep working with him and he will get the hang of it. Max was really squirmy too. I also learned how to steady his head by carefully placing my hand on either the jawline or the top of his head. Anywhere that doesn't put pressure on the throat and doesn't cause him harm. |
I have a boy dog, so I'll weigh in: When we got Logan he had shorter hair. We kept him groomed but we let it grow...and it was getting really REALLY long. Until about a month ago... I was conditioning and brushing him constantly...he looked REALLY gorgeous. BUT... he was starting to smell! It got to the point where I would bathe him and he would be smelling really good... and then a day later he was a stink butt again. Finally, we had to have him cut shorter... not quite a puppy cut. He's still got some length, and I didn't want his "mad scientist" hair/bangs to be gone. Our groomer did a GREAT job. The long coats are gorgeous, but they're so high-maintenance. Maybe in the winter when we're inside more I will let it grow long again... |
