Grooming Tapes, Where? Hi YT I am totally new here and have read every thread (I beleive) about grooming tapes. I have contacted 2 different places about K. McGregors tapes, I did not reeceive a reply. So I am hoping someone here has them for sale or knows where I could get them. There seems to be some good ones that were done by members here, I would be interested in that one or maybe someone has a better one. I do hope I have posted this in the right place, please forgive my ignorance if this post is in the wrong place. The Slave |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. What is a grooming tape? Are you referring to a video? There are some free videos posted here in the sticky posts at the top of the forum. I bought one from eBay and I didn't like the way the person treated the dogs. Can't remember the name. YouTube is also a great resource. |
K. McGregor just rang a bell with me -- the renowned Yorkie handler? Her videos are reported to be excellent. |

Hi Yes your right I meant a dvd or video of any form. Yes I have heard so much about these videos(K. McGregor) that it will be the answer to my hopeful champ! I have not a mentor to help me so I thought that would be excellent! Thanks for your response! |
I haven't done any trimming on my puppy as yet but have heard others encourage others to try and that practice makes perfect. Oh yes, they also reminded that the hair does grow back. LOL |
Hi, yes that coat will grow back, but the type of grooming I am interested in is grooming for show. |
They have videos about grooming yorkies on YouTube. They also have videos on grooming them for shows too. |

If you are learning to groom your show dog, then Kristen's tapes/DVDs are definitely what you want. Best wishes/ |
oh no problem, if you find somewhere I could get those DVD's I would certainly appreciate knowing. Thanks everyone for responding. |

You might want to post a new thread in the showing section asking for info. More show people may see it and may be able to help. You could also post on Gemy's (Gail) page and ask. She is in Canada and has a Grand Champion Yorkie named Sir Razzle Dazzle: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/member.php?u=19203647 I would love to have the DVDs myself, although my boys are pets. |
I did find those sites in Europe and the other in USA sent an email and after 2 weeks and no response I would say not reliable sources. Thanks for the suggestions, I will try! ps! if I find them I will let you know! Again thanks |

I think you said you wanted to show. Some advice vs a vs grooming. Watch carefully how to just tip/trim the ears, also how the paw is shaped, and the amount of coat that you do leave on around the paw up to the ankle. Also the sanitary trim for the show dog. Tip the coat ends every 2-3 wks after bathing. Buy the best quality shampoo and conditioner for washing the coat. Vellus might ship up to Alaska. #1 All Systems is another good line. Some folks love Coat Handler products. Biogroom has an excellent Silk Conditioner very good.Laser Lites has some good products - particularly "Silk" that can be diluted as a grooming spray or as an additive to your conditioner. Also invest in some wrapping jackets. If you train outdoors, consider sun damage (so wrapping jacket protects coat from sun), and booties. You will need to purchase wrapping papers to wrap the coat as well. Good luck in the ring. |
Hi and thank you for responding, I wish i was looking for a handler!(that would mean he has grown his coat!) I am also from Etobicoke, but moved north long ago. The products are a problem to find and expensive! As if 'that' product doesn't work for your pup! must try another! I am nearing giving up! Lol I have purchased plush puppy products, but not really seeing any miracles, but hopefully a bit more time! i will reread this info when his coat has grown a few inches! much appreciated! |

I am not sure how close you might be to dog shows where you live, but I have usually purchased my products at the dog shows. Don't despair about the slow growing coat, that often indicates a true silk coat. Razzle did not come into his full coat until almost 2yrs old. As a puppy I clippered his ears with a moustache trimmer about once per month; how-ever I was lucky in that my breeder show groomed him. So she did that crisp scissoring along the edges of the ears. I think it is so great that you want to show way up in Alaska or maybe the old Northwest Territories. If there are any questions you have - I am here willing to help out as I can. Just remember coat health is a function of good nutrition, good genetics, and proper care of the coat. Keep in touch! |
Hi, very interesting about Razzle being almost 2 prior to finishing his coat! That is encouraging, and yet if the same for my little guy then i'm a way off in time looking for a handler! I did purchase my products at a show, but there was no choice, only one vender with one product. I would have liked to try Vellus cream, but maybe the next show i am able to get to will offer it. I have read here on YT that some show breeders don't oil or wrap, what do they substitute with? It sounds appealing, but I don't know what they are doing instead to achieve growth. Thanks for your input and support. |

Please consider you need to get your boy used to the show ring, and trained for it, even if his coat has not grown in yet. You could show him as a puppy. And I highly encourage taking handling classes for him most especially and for you. |
Hello, yes I am able to get us both to class once a month, very repetitious but that is my view, my yorkie seems to quite enjoy it. He flaunts his stuff, shows off his moves and gets so much attention. I believe it is due to him being the only toy, ever there. Unfortunately there is no one there, thus far that have a long coat and issues such as a yorkie. He is from good stock, both parents are champions. He has been assessed for show, just coat length needed. He is on a great food and has had a supplement formulated specifically for him. Again I can't thank you enough for your support. |
