Quickfinder nail trimmer I'm just wondering if anyone has ever found one of the quick finder nail clippers that TRULY work? Tuffy has always been my " hard to trim the nails" pup & I'm giving up using the electric sander because I just can't get him used to the noise. It's gotten to the point of using a soft muzzle on him & I HATE IT! I think our main problem is I get nervous of hitting the quick & I swear he senses it. I'd like to go back to trimming his nails myself instead of having the vet do it. |
Bump. I would love to find out too! |
I did see an upgraded version for sale but I'd love to hear from anyone that's used either type. Bella falls asleep while having her pedicure...Tuffy acts like I'm killing him & I'm so nerve wracked after 2 paws that I need a break! |
I did a search of the YT site and came up with some posts about the trimmer. Hope it helps. I bought one a while back and it didn't work very well for me. I took it back. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sea...archid=6348656 |
Thanks Lila! I've read everything here on YT (even the OLD stuff) & every review I could find on the net. I do think this thread has a lot of great info in it: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ons-video.html The video now works & it's pretty good for those new to trimming nails. Heck, it's a good refresher for anyone actually :) |
I am NOT a dog groomer, but I belong to a grooming forum. I'll post the question there and see if I get any responses. I'll let you know what I find out - give me until Sunday to see what they say. |

I did a search on the forum and found the following: Q: Has anyone tried this out yet ? Just wondering if it worked, it is a little pricey . *Yeah, I had clients who tried it and said never again. " So, much blood " *I generally assume that if they really worked, everyone would have them. They aren't exactly new to the market. The ones that I tried years and years ago were absolutely worthless. I heard this as well from my clients. * The one I handled found the quick instantly in a wooden dowel, but never located a quick in an overgrown nail. I wouldn't trust the "quick finding" part of it as far as I could throw it... which is about 37 yards I estimate... I didn't actually walk out into the brush to count the distance to where it seemed to have landed. Luckily I didn't pay for it, one of my friends bought one and got mad when they immediately quicked their dog's nails and brought it to me to show them how to work it. Then they gave it to me when they saw how poorly it worked. Then I pitched it. |

Pet Supplies - Pet Products - Pet Food | Petco.com If the nails are very long, you might have to go over them twice since it cuts pretty thin slivers, but it is impossible to get into the quick if you use these with the guard engaged. You can also flip the guard around and cut without, but then you run the risk of cutting into the quick. |
I bought one of those quick finder nail clippers. They don't work. First of all, the actual clipper is so big that it's really hard to use - and I bought the smallest one. Also, sometimes I get a red light (means don't clip) when I hold the clipper right at the very end tip of the nail. I think I tried to use it about 3 times & clipped about 4 nails with it before I chucked it. I have my vet cut their nails now. I have 3 pups so I'm always there anyway :p He doesn't charge me. |
I know this post is getting old, but will put my 2 cents in... I bought the fancy quick finder clippers. Bought the small ones in the cat aisle. Completely useless! $37! I'm still put out about it. Then bought the nippers with the guard, and they are working like a charm. The guard is spaced a little long, so I eyeball the nail before deciding to cut. No blood so far, and Yorkies are tolerating it fairly well. My smallest Yorkie has been diagnosed with collapsing trachea, so I can't risk the aggitation of having professionally groomed any more -- not even in the mobile grooming truck. I 'towel' him after his bath -- wrap in such that only one leg is exposed and lay him on his back on the bathroom counter. It seems to befuddle him enough that I can get one foot done at a time before he gets restless. I can't believe they're still able to sell those "quick finder" clippers. But then, I bought them, so hey.... |

Yeah, I pretty much decided not to buy these. Maybe good for a calm pup but Tuffy is far from that. LOL It's funny you mentioned how you wrap your pup...I thought about buying a cat bag made for bathing with zippers for their legs. Happy to say Tuffy has calmed down & let's me trim his nails now. Guess he finally figured out momma wasn't gonna give in! |
Had it and found it to be unreliable |
