puppy with dry skin tips???? curious to know how to care for a pups dry skin ( 3 months old) he scrathches offten behind his ears and has a bit of a dandrift like flakes ... he was a rescue dog i have yet to bathe him my self i know he was given a bath 4 days ago not sure what products were used im assuming a puppy shampoo ..... wondering when and what i should use to treat his dry skin -bella and little max :aimeeyork |
I'd do a vet check (for mites) and coconut oil in his food and on his body. |
I agree with KJC, a vet check first to rule out a health issue. Bathe with good products (no human baby shampoo, which is very drying), and consider a diet supplement like coconut oil. I like fish oil too. |
Great thanks so very much for the feed back ! Happy new year ! |
Is it behind the ears or the outer ear flap that you're seeing flakes? Sometimes, the shampoo residue is left on the ears & it causes itchiness & flaking. I always make sure to rinse off their ear flaps on the final rinse. Try rinsing them off as best you can w/out getting water in his ear. If he's still itchy, maybe seeing a vet would be best. |
I give mine Vit.E and also put a couple drops on my hands and rub in to their coat and then rinse. The winter months dry out our skin and it can theirs too. Vet suggested the Vit. E capsules I give once a week. The Vit E oil I use during baths only. If you use to much it will look greasy but does soak in. Doesn't take much at all. |
