Summer Cut? 4 Attachment(s) I live in upstate NY and it can get pretty hot here in the summertime, not to mention humid. Cinnamon is 4 months old and is in need of a good grooming. I had her brushed out last week and the groomer recommended I get her shaved. I don't want her to be completely shaved, but am thinking that maybe a 1/2 in would be good. Her coat is soft and fluffy, so it mats easily. What to do?! Opinions would be great! Here she is now: |
At a certain point you have to decide whether you are capable of running a razor comb through her fur every day or is it just easier to keep her trimmed shorter. It is very uncomfortable for them when it gets matted under their arms and around their bellies. Sometimes it is just easier to keep them trimmed shorter every couple of months to avoid that. Plus it is more comfortable for them if you keep the hair around their eyes and ears trimmed as well, because stuff gets caught in these places and then they can get infections. It really is up to how much time you have to put into it |
she is soooo cute. Look up the zoey cut. That is what I did with Remy |
Where can we look up the zoey cut? I am also looking for what kind of cut I want. I plan to take my Bentley to the groomer after his shots are complete in a couple weeks. |
2 Attachment(s) Cinnamon got groomed today!! The groomer did what I asked so it is my own fault if I don't like it. I mostly like it, but wish she had kept the fur around her nose longer, so she had a more rounded face. I asked her to keep her hair long on the top of her head so I can put it up in a topknot once it's long enough. :) My other dogs didn't recognize her when she got home; she was so confused. :( Here she is: |
I think Cinnamon looks super cute! |
How short did you tell her to go? I like that length. I may use it for my Bentley. |
Aw...she looks adorable! She will feel so much better for summer too:thumbup: |

Here's my Zhoie, in her cut. |
Sadly most groomers love to shave dogs because it is easier to do then actually spending some time doing some actual grooming. I'm sorry. Your dog is adorable with or without hair. I live in New York State also. My baby has an issue with the cold and while the summer months we do have can get really hot it is only 2 months out of the year that we have warmer weather. Last year I kept Gracie long because of her issue with the cold. She would still get under the covers with me or under her blanket if I had the fan or AC on. This year I had the groomer trim her length to just below her belly and she trimmed her legs to match her body length. I think she looks adorable (but that's just me) It got rid of her uneven ends. I have never combed through her hair with a razor comb. That is generally used on a dog with under coat that mats a lot. Most Yorkies have no undercoat and that is why they get cold so easily. Some have a "cotton" coat that tends to mat a bit more than the silky coat. With daily combing you should be able to keep either kind of coat mat free. If someone does not want to do daily grooming then they don't want a long haired dog. I personally love long haired dogs and have had one most of my life. The good thing is your baby's hair will grow back. Just be really careful about what groomer you use. If they won't do what you want then you don't want to let them touch your dog. |
1 Attachment(s) Oh, here's the one with a fuller face...the other one was after her surgery and her chin hair was gone:D |
Because of the Houston heat and humidity, I plan to get Zachary's hair cut pretty short the first time around. When we got him, he was pretty matted. He lost a lot of fur with me trying to clean him up although if I had it to do over again, I would probably have a groomer shave him down. His facial hair is pretty full but still thin elsewhere. I want his face kept short like yor pic minus the long hair on top. Body I will probably leave up to the groomer till it grows out. Do ALL Yorkies mat so much in a days time like Zachary? Louise |
Cinnamon is shaved to a half inch length. If her hair grows back in more silky than cotton I would love it long. I have heard that puppies do have a different coat than adults. Hers was just so fluffy and although she must be trained to be brushed, she hated it. She'd nibble on my hand the whole time and I just felt bad. Not to mention she is definitely an outdoor dog and loves to run in tall grass and dig. |
1 Attachment(s) Hey, I'm in Rotterdam NY too! I will show you a pic of how I have a couple of mine done.... |
