Cotton coat? Im not sure I understand what this is? What age do you know if thats what your pup has? |
Cotton Coat By 6 weeks old you will know. The puppies with the thin, sparse, straight coats will develop into the long silky coats. The pups with the fuzzy, very full puppy coats usually wind up with full thick cottony coats that mat like crazy. About the only thing you can do with a cotton coat is keep it in a puppy coat unless you want to groom 24/7. |
Then i would have to say...Sophie will have a cotton coat? I dont have much to compare her to though |
2 Attachment(s) Macy is around nine months now, and still has a pretty cottony coat. I'm guessing she will stay that way? The first picture is when I first got her, around 12 weeks old and the second is from today, right after her bath, nine months. |

One way to know if a young Yorkie puppy (or even a full grown dog Yorkie) will be a cotton is to shine a flash light in the eye and if they shine pink, then they are a cotton. If they have the green eye shine, then they are silk coated. If they have a green eye and a pink eye, then it's a toss up. |
If that's the case, then the new puppy I got will have silky coat! Gabby has a cotton coat. I keep it about 2" long and use Pureology conditioner on her. That seems to keep it from matting, but she still looks like a fuzz ball if I let it grow out. I do with I could get her topknot to grow a little longer. At this point, she looks like a troll doll when I put it up. |
How old are they when their coat is mature? |
Tessa is a silky coat. I didn't know what a cotton coat was until her sister came along. Daisy is 100% American cotton. I saw her sporting a few dread locks the other day. Grooming her is Jamaican me crazieee :eek: :D |
6 weeks is way too young to tell, some pups dont grow into their "REAL" coat for 1-2 years and most puppies have a "puppy coat" that is fluffy and cotton-esque. |

I'm Guessing my Luci is a silky coat she never get's matted. I brush her evey other day. She just love's to be brushed out.Doesn't like the top knot though.Alway's finds a way to get it out.:p:luv: Just love my Luci girl. |
