Tips for tears... Im sitting here reading the board, with Sophie on my chest...she keeps setting her nose on mine...lol Anyway I noticed tear marks, and they are getting crusty...she let me pick at it...but are there any tips out there for tear tracks? |
I use purified water rather than tap water for Georgie and that has helped with the yucky eye gunk. |
Hi, I read on this forum, some time ago to use baby water, i.e., Gerber baby water or other brands. I did a complete switch to Gerber about 2 months ago and NO MORE tears for Romeo. It took about two weeks to clear up so don't expect overnight magic. Good luck. |
Are you all talking about eye gunk? Luma has it bad. What do you do with the gerber water then? Clean their eyes with it? Or do they drink it? Thanks...its so annoying. |

We give her water from a Brita filter pitcher...hmm. Maybe we'll try the gerber water. |
I had less problems with the tears/eye gunk after we passed the teething stage. |
I would have never thought about changing drinking water...hmmm Interesting the things you learn!! Thank you |

Some dogs are said to have a "low grade systematic infection" and that's why Angel Eyes which contains an antibiotic " Tylan" works for them, but this isn't something for long term use. My foster had bad crusty eyes and just growing out his forehead hairs is making a big difference, he hardly ever has crusts. Joey got really bad brown teary eyes after a food switch once, so we switch back to our normal food and he was fine. In other words, it depends what’s causing the problem on what will work in clearing it up. This site has some good information. I have been using Gerber water for a while now and did not notice a major difference in the wetness around the eyes at first; however, I ran out of the Gerber water and I noticed a smell  and more gunk when my husband gave him Brita water. He is back on Gerber and has mild wetness but no smell or gunk. I hope it goes away completely when he is finished teething. :p |
I wondered about Fluoride not being in the gerber water? Don't teeth need fluoride? |

Thank you for the link!! |
I use Gerger Pure instead of the Gerber baby water. The Pure does not have fluoride added in. The Pure is used made for mixing and comes in a blue label where the regular baby water has a pink label. Macy was doing great on the Gerber Pure and TOTW - no tears for a year. I switched food from TOTW because of the problems at Diamond to Fromm Grain Free and now we are battling the tears again. Also be sure there aren't any stray hairs poking in the eyes that can cause tearing. |
