OK to cut mustache whiskers?
 
Is it OK to cut the whiskers from the mustache? Does anyone do this? Are there any pros and cons? Betty Boop's mustache won't lay flat. I just can't bring myself to cut them!

I can only speak for myself Lila, but I cut Jada and Bogie's whiskers last year. I had read that it did help the hair lay flat. I can say that I hated it. I let them grow back out. I didn't hate it for the looks, I just hated it when they started growing back, they were like getting stuck by a briar or a needle.

I had the same experience, and I agree.

A lot of people cut the whiskers, so I tried it on Teddy. It was terrible for him and made things worse. We are still growing them out and they stick straight out of his blond mustache.

Yep..we went through that same thing when growing them back out...never again or live and learn:rolleyes:;)

I've always felt bad about grooming whiskers because they are sensitive. however, it is common practice.

LoL I wouldn't! :aimeeyork Peanut has one whisker that sticks up LoL Kinda funny! I will not cut it LoL

Hmm... I've never had problems with their moustache whiskers sticking out? It seems odd to cut them... I know they don't use them like cats do, but aren't they kind of important? lol

I've also read that people cut them to get the mustaches to lay flat. I'm not going to cut them. Thanks for sharing.

How long have you been growing them out? Are they slow growing? I hate growing pains!

Thank you so much for the article. It was very informative. I'm definitely going to leave Boop's whiskers alone. I didn't know they were so sensitive. I thought it would be like plucking our eyebrows.

It has been at least 4 months and the whiskers are finally starting to lay down again. When I first started allowing them to regrow, they were like push pins sticking straight out the sides. It looked terrible and they were a nuisance to poor Teddy.

Teddy has lots of big whiskers that get caught in the fine tooth comb. Ouch! Max's are much finer and hardly noticeable.

When Betty Boop was growing up, I had her groomed more than I do now because I'm letting her hair grow. I really believe that her whiskers have been cut in the past. They are "wild".

Do you cut the long black hairs above the eyes? Are they considered to be the same as whiskers, too? She has a few really long ones. I think they are pretty but they always are in the top knot and it looks like it bothers her.

But I would have to agree with what seems to be the consensus so far, the whiskers are more annoying to deal with when they are growing back. Kinda like growing bangs out:mad:....you get to that point where they are awkward and a hastle to work with.

What a coincidence that you should ask, yesterday Teddy's 4 long "wires" above his eyes were sticking everywhere. They have never bothered him in the past. I usually have his topknot too far back on his head, so the wires don't really get stuck in his.

I have trimmed the ones above the eyes without a problem. I don't cut them all the way to the skin. Depends on how thick they are.

What a coincidence! lol Boop doesn't have but maybe 5 or 6. I try to keep them out of the topknot because I can feel her pain. I usually just take some Cindra gel and train them to go to the sides. I think they make her eyes look sexy.:D
