dry flaky skin Hello all !!! I have my little guy on the breeders recommended royal canin for yorkies puppy food. Within the last 3 weeks, he has developed dry flaky skin. the breeder recommended I use Olive Oil shine spray on his coat after his bath and Olive Oil shampoo and conditioner. I have followed this advice to the letter but after bathing he has "dry skin flakes" that look like dandruff. Anyone else experience this ? what can I do ? |
Is the olive oil shampoo a brand shampoo or a homemade concoction? Did the flaking coincide with the start of using this shampoo and conditioner? I would try another brand and make sure you rinse the shampoo out thoroughly. Shampoo residue can cause flaking and dry, itchy skin. If this doesn't help and if your pup is very itchy or appears to have any other skin problems, talk to your vet about allergies. |
Dry Flaky Skin I, too, just noticed that my Yorkie developed some flakes on her lower back. She didn't seem to be itchy or scratching the area. It does coincide with the use of a new shampoo and conditioner I used -- Pet Silk. Could this be just that I didn't rinse enough? I have to mention that I used the shampoo and conditioner full strength. I did notice on the bottle that I could dilute both shampoo and conditioner with 1:6 ration. Do you follow this recommendation? Thank you for your advice. I'm a very new Yorkie mommy, but a lifelong dog owner. Cristina |
