First grooming...trim ears
 
My yorkie has floppy ears at 4 mnths still. I think they are cute, but still want to ask. What kinda trimmers are you all using on their ears? I have an (human) eyebrow trimmer and also a Wahl body trimmer for humans too. Will either of these work and how do I go about it?

I took him for his first grooming and instead of just having her trim him up I had him shaved quite a bit down with face kept a little longer. He looks so tiny now, like an anorexic puppy but is 4 lbs! Anyway I think she basically left his ears alone even didn't pluck this time because he fighted the ENTIRE time. So now he is big head, big floppy ears, skinny body and toothpick legs. Oh my... I kinda feel bad I didn't just get a trim. He was pretty scruffy and needed nails done so I said do THE WORKS to extend time between groomings.

I use a mustache trimmer on my boys' ears. Many exhibitors say the Wahl Peanut (available on Amazon) is good for ears and feet, and I have been meaning to buy one for a long time. :)

A regular size Wahl or any trimmer would be too big to work on a Yorkie's ears.

Would this work? I own one. Also wouldn't the eyebrow trimmer work like a mustache trimmer? Do you use a guard?

The one you linked looks like a good size. An eyebrow trimmer probably wouldn't be strong enough to get through all of the hair. I do not use a guard, and I still don't get the hair as short as the show dogs'.

Ok, thanks! I may try to trim his ears. He has one that stands when alert, but the other is floppy, lol. When not alert both flop. Kinda cute ...one up, one down.

That does sound cute. :) If you have never used one of these trimmers or if you are unsure how to do the ears, look for a video on YouTube, or if your breeder is nearby, ask for a demonstration, or ask a groomer to show you.

M breeder also grooms and she uses a 30 blade on the ears. That is a surgical blade and I would be afraid to use it. I think a #5 is just as good and not as dangerous.
