Help for static hair? I have a silky that's hair is so static? Just wondered what is the best shampoo and condition for her? I been using oatmeal from my vet but the static is terrible? |
Conditioner helps fight static. I also use Vellus Anti-Stat brushing spray. It is available online only. I order directly from Vellus. Many great shampoos and conditioners to choose from: Espree (at Petco) Biogroom shampoos and Silk Creme Conditioner Coat Handler Chris Christensen PetSilk Isle of Dogs Vellus just to name a few. Most of these are available only online, unless you happen to be lucky and have a great local dog boutique. |

We like : Coat handler PEK Yorkie Sheen Have used Vellusnin the past and liked it also. In the winter a humidifier makes a remarkable improvement. Another hint if you don't already know it is, don't ever brush her dry. |
^^Very good points. The right brushes and combs can make a difference in static too. I like my stainless steel combs and wooden pin brush to cut down on static. Any good pin brush helps. |

All good advice, especially the humidifier in the winter.(makes a big difference for us!) It also helps to make sure your pups are staying well hydrated in the winter. They (and we) tend to drink less than we should in the winter. Approx 1 oz. Per pound of body weight per day is the common recommendation by physicians/vets |
It helps to hold your furbutt on your lap and massage all over their body with your fingertips after they have been dried, and then run your fingers through the hair itself. Oddly enough, this stimulates the oil glands in their skin and they are more apt to help control their static hair naturally. This works wonders on Brussels. He's not a Yorkie...has no Yorkie in him at all, but I would think all dogs have oil glands in their skin that help to naturally reduce static...so might be worth a try with Yorkies, too. |
