question 2 Attachment(s) do you think that this is too short of a cut for a Yorkie puppy and have you ever seen this short hair on a Yorkie. we took our Yorkie Toby to the groomers back in July and we thought they shaved him too short. just wanted to know if he was groomed too short. I attached a before pic. and an after pic. note that it is now September and his hair hasn't grown much since. it is growing slowly. the lady told us she had to shave him cause she said she couldn't get the mats out. so what do you think. we won't be offended by any answer. and any advice about the next time we take him to the groomers.:animal36 Attachment 353246 Attachment 353247 |
Aww....Toby is a cutie. I know some owners prefer a very close cut to keep grooming time to a minimum. So, it's really a matter of personal preference and how much time you are willing to devote to daily grooming as to how long a coat you'll keep on Toby. With daily brushing you'll avoid matting, and the next groomers trip should only be for a trim. |
Aw...Toby is a cutie for sure. I think he looks adorable, he has the sweetest little face. I personally like Zhoie shaved on the back since she is a cotton coat and longer hair on her face and legs. Toby's looks like his coat is nice and shiny. I think is all in what you like. If you have cold winter months like we do here....may need some clothes though :) |
I like hair in the middle, sorta a puppy cut. I prefer my dog in longer hair and wouldn't cut Chloe's hair off that short because the coat is one of the prettiest things about a Yorkie. |
He is absolutely adorable either puppy shaggy or w the close cut! I think it is personal preference. Sometimes, though, I think the groomers shave bc it can be done quicker than scissor trimming. I like the combination cut - like the Zhoey or Joey cut - where the back is shaved and the face and legs are left longer. He is almost there for that cut. His legs would just have to grow out a bit. There are threads w pics of that cute cut. I think it is really up to your preference (and his). My Gidget likes her hair shorter and no topknot. |
you can see my my avatar pic maddie is in her joey cut------i loved her long hair, and maybe someday i will let it grow again. But i also love this cut too. and its alot easier with her when she wears her clothes--no knots ;) |
Toby is adorable!!! I would just tell them to tip the ears and round the face a bit more, but it's all personal preference! |
1 Attachment(s) I have a little guy named Toby too. He just got groomed yesterday. I keep him in the puppy cut as he doesn't like to be combed or brushed, especially around his face. I know some prefer longer hair but I love this cut on him. I've had him cut this way since I got him almost two years ago. In the winter I do leave the hair a bit longer. |

The last time Gizmo was cut it was this short and with a mowhack. He does a lot of outdoor activities with us and it is easier to keep it short. |
I have done this short before but had to put sun screen or clothes worried she would get sun burn way to fast. It is a preference for sure.. I love the puppy cut. And at times I like the hair long. Everyone has there favorites |
I love his ears!! What a cutie. I k eep Mina's body hair about 1/2" to 3/4" long. It is easier to keep and she wears clothes. A longer coat requires daily brushings. Mina gets brushed/combed about once a week or more often if she is getting an extra bath. Her longer face, topknot and back of neck hair gets combed out every two or three days. I check for mats every evening when I put her nightie on her. |
I don't think he was cut "too short" per say, but I doubt he had to be cut that short just because of matting. a good groomer should be able to work the matts enough that you can use a longer blade on them (unless he was severely matted to the skin....then you have to be careful with the dematting tools). If he was matted that badly, then shaving him close might have been the only safe solution. I would just suggest maybe letting him grow out for a while. If you want a short puppy cut but not that short, I would tell them to use a 5/8 comb or a #3 blade. That will leave him a little bit of hair but leave it very manageable. It looks like his hair grows pretty slow so that length should be pretty good for you. just be careful when you use the phrase "puppy cut" because that is a very broad phrase. you should make sure you know the length that you want. 1/2" to 3/4 " is most popular for the yorkies. |
