Long hair on Jackson...??? 3 Attachment(s) Not quite yet. I love him looking all clean, fresh, sharp and short :D but am *considering* seeing what his hair would do if I did let it grow out a bit in the winter (this wouldn't be until November-ish if I do it). But I have a question. I've always thought Jackson's hair would just not look right long on him, but the photos attached is the longest I've probably ever let it gotten. See how it's curly-ish?? Is that normal at that "stage" or do you think his hair would never be laying more flat down? How long do you think it would take to grow that out (he is usually shaved about every 10-12 weeks and it doesn't get very long between the groomings). He's not a cottony coat really... he never gets matted but he's not super silky straight either. My guess is modified coat? Not sure! It just seems to me if I let it keep growing without getting it cut, it would kind of just poof out and never lay down the middle with a part... lol |
1 Attachment(s) When he was a pup, it laid a bit straight.... but that was puppy hair! |
You know, Max's hair is growing now after a super short cut. I've notice that once his hair starts growing it gets kind of puffy, the reason, at least with Max's hair right now, is that is not even, kind of in layers, I have been cutting his skirt and waiting for the hair on his back gets long enough..did I explain that right?...once it gets one length it will lay flat. |
yes :) I love longer hair on yorkies! Why not give it a try? I like the 3rd pic where his hair is longer. ZoE's hair is slowwwly growing out. It's pretty straight, but she has "wings" on her hips where it's not quite long enough to hang straight and it curves out when she sits down...and when she stands up, it stays that way....lol I brush it straight as I blowdry it after a bath and it looks good for a hour maybe....then she sits down ...and hip wings! |
I love Jackson's short, clean cut....makes him look so handsome :) |
I too like Jackson's short hair. His "long" hair in his pics looks exactly the way Toby's hair looks when it's getting close to go to the groomer. Jackson and Toby both have "the wave" look going on when their hair gets longer. The way you described Jackson's hair is exactly the way Toby's hair is too. I've kept him in a puppy cut ever since I've had him. |
I think his hair would be wavy but not curly when grown out. The longer the hair is the flater it goes as the hair is weighed down. When I cut Brownie's hair short it starts growing back curly and poofy. But after it gets through that stage it always lays flat and straight again. It certainly takes patience and time because I've wanted to cut the hair all over again but had to wait it out. I think Jackson would look just as great with long hair as he does with short hair. On the other hand he seems to be quite an active boy so I would say he would probably be more suited for a shorter cut. |
Thanks guys! You know how much I love Jackson's short suave look ;) So I probably would never be able to wait it out to grow long enough, LOL. So it was more just a thought... and I did not know if it would even be possible for him to grow it out and look semi-decent, or not. But yes he would be miserable if he had to be brushed daily, etc. Right now he's so wash-and-wear... I literally give him a bath once every 10 days or so. I brush him probably every 5 days and he's good to go. |

The problem is like someone else said that his hair is layered as it grows out- yorkies with the long hair are only scissor cut, no clipper is used on the body. So it would take quite awhile to grow his hair all one length and at that point it would start to lay flatter probably- but you wouldn't know until that point. Chloe has a cottony coat and it never lays flat, I let it get very long and we just couldn't get it to lay flat so now we chopped it into layers. |
3 Attachment(s) His hair sounds a lot like Rizzo's. Here is a pic of what it looks like when he is a little "grungy" lol. Attachment 346751 The only time it hangs straight is when I blow dry it, otherwise it'll get curly looking. Even then it only stays straight for the day :rolleyes:Attachment 346752 I say you may as well give it a try during the winter months, just to see how he looks with it. Heck maybe you could just try the "Joey" :D It seems to look good on any yorkie :aimeeyork Attachment 346753 |
BTW..Jackson is so adorable! I love that puppy pic! and the one of him on the back of the couch, haha. |
I love Jackson's Haircut. He always looks so handsome. I was dead set on having Taycie's hair being long. And for the first year it was. She has a modified coat so, it would mat if she had a sweater on in the winter, wearing her harness and up by her collar. It also gets in the 100's in summer and I just couldn't do it any more. Not to mention, if I did not brush her at least twice a day.. she would start to get tiny mats. She also needed baths at least every 7 days, sometimes sooner. I started to become tired of the grooming.. and I know she did as well. I recently cut Taycie's hair into the Zhoie/Joey haircut and I absolutley love it short. I love that she looks so clean and sharp. I also love seeing her tiny little body:) Yes, I still love the long hair look, and if she had a true silky coat she would probably have it but.. I am so in love with her cut right now I can't see us going back:) |
Jackson's shorter cut seems so appropriate for his fun, wildly active lifestyle. I can't imagine him with really long hair; I'm sure he'd be cute, but is that really his personality? Long hair looks terrible after swimming in the pool, and in winter snow clings to it easily. There is that awkward stage in growing out hair that always looks scruffy and in need of grooming. I did it with Tiki because her body is so long and skinny she looks better with the fullness of long coat. But it took a year. Sound like you have already thought it through and will just enjoy him as he has been, and also enjoy the freedom of daily brushing. |
I like Jackson's short hair. There is quite a commitment to maintain long hair. Jackson is so active at the dog park and loves swimming that I think shorter hair just makes sense for him. Long hair and pool are not the best mix! In fact, I'm debating cutting both my boys short because sometimes I find I don't want them in the pool because of their hair. It's ridiculous, actually:rolleyes: |
