Between-grooming conditioner for mat prevention? I have some trouble w/ mat development btwn brushings. Does anyone use a product for between grooming that can help w/ preventing mat development? |
Oh Ann, ....if there is such a product, the companies sales would be phenomenal! Honestly, I've tried just about all of the products out there (you know me:p) and I've yet to find one that actually prevents mats. I've got lots of ideas and products on how to remove mats once they've formed, but it would be the best news to find something that did prevent them. Where are the mats, under the legs and tummy area? If that's the case, trim the hair as short as possible...you can't really see the hair there if you keep any length of skirt, so it won't matter to cut it off. |

This was recommended via PM, and think I'm going to try it: ![]() And then I'm going to try this too, which looks really good! Has anyone used Isle of Dogs no. 63...? ![]() |
I've never tried the IOD No. 63 spray, but have tried the Silky Coating Line Brush Spray & it's great for preventing mats between baths. I've been using the shampoo & conditioner for about 3 weeks now & notice less tangles on my boys who's hair mats & they're both sensitive. The Stuff is great but does have a silicon agent (ingredients are not listed on the bottle:confused:), so some people do not like that it can weigh the hair down if used heavily. It does repel urine & dirt stains just like the CC Ice on Ice & really does help brush out tough mats. I've never experienced weighing down of the hair bc I use so many different products on them... |
I suggest leaving a conditioner on longer during bathtime, and a diluted spray of conditioner and water during brushing, or if his coat is somewhat dry... a little Coconut oil will help (leaves them oily looking for a day or two but then soaks in). My Tink's coat is dry and she mats if I look at her! |
I use Chris Christensen Ice on Ice on Riley. I just noticed yesterday he was getting some mats on his back legs, right where you said!! I know some of my friends who have Maltese use John Paul Detangling Spray... I have not tried that yet though. ![]() |
Just started using the IOD shampoo, conditioner, and detangler. I spray then brush and it does a great job on helping with mats. And it smells really good. I purchased from Jenny at toplinepet.com when she ran her special. She may still have it going on! :) |
I've used The Stuff and didn't like it at all. The only thing I've found (although it doesn't prevent mats) that keeps hair silky and easy to brush through is the Bio-Groom Mink Oil instand coas glosser conditioner.... |

I'll let you know how IOD No. 63 works for me, if you're interested. If it doesn't work well, then I'll be browsing you site! |
