Not sure where to start I have a rescue dog we're fostering. She's some sort of terrier (I think a yorkie mix, she's in my avatar). Her coat is exactly like my relatives' yorkies at any rate. To be honest I have no idea how to go about grooming her coat. It seems to gather dirt and start looking messy and greasy after a day even if I bathe and brush it out. I am used to papillon and sheltie type hair so this is very new to me and I'm not sure if I'm grooming her right or if she'll need to be clipped or stripped or what. So any help is very much appreciated. :) |
Welcome :) Yorkies coats don't need to be stripped, you can use a regular clipper or just scissors, my groomer uses the clippers between my dogs feet and on their belly area because we do that nice and short and also on their back end, everything else she just uses scissors, but I keep mine fairly long- if you want to do a really short cut- you could use clippers all around. You really need to use a good conditioner on Yorkie hair- it makes a HUGE difference. Anyway- Ada is adorable- hope she finds a wonderful home :) |
Welcome to YT and thank you for being a foster :) In addition to a good conditioner if you are not use to grooming a Yorkie you should probably have her professionally groomed at least once. |
