Cotton hair is starting to curl at 5years old Rocky's hair has always been a little cottony, but in the past year or so it is becoming curly and thicker. I read a post about using a thinning shears and that looks like a good start, but does anyone have any ideas about getting the curl to lay down on his forelocks? Blow drying helps a bit for a few days. |
Other than blow drying the only thing I could suggest is possibly to use a flat iron. I hesitate to suggest that though not knowing you and your experience. It can be dangerous if the flat iron is too hot, or gets to close to the skin (can also be damaging to the coat). What about just keeping him in a short cut, and using the blow dryer? |
Harley's hair started getting that way. I had to switch to Show Season conditioner and make sure to blow dry until completely dry. Sometimes putting him in oil with BioGroom Super Cream Conditioner helped. It made it lay flat. Now, I just keep his body short and the rest long. |
I agree i think using a conditioner will make a huge difference. |
Rocky's Coat Progress So I took all of your advice. First I purchased a thinning shears and used it on his legs. Then, in a moment of inspiration while watching an infomercial for When (sp?) hair care, I asked myself, does my dog really need shampoo? I actualy applied this new theory on myself first. So for the past several days, I've been cleaning my own hair by just wetting and rinsing well Then applying Mastey daily conditioner and leaving it on while I do the rest. Man what a difference, my hair feels much better. It's clean, and has body and I use lots of product, but there is no build-up and it is not flat like it usually is, so for now I'm able to use less product. So this weekend I did the same with Rocky same product. Then I blew him out and his hair also looks and feels great, It no longer feels cottony. I suppose both of us will need a shampooing once in a while but for now, I'm keeping with this plan. Thinning a bit and no more shampoo. |
Tibbe has been a "Curly Top" since about 14 mos. with his very cottony coat but it fits him somehow so I'm not going to concern myself with it as I now think it is cute. I guess if this guy went bald I would think it was cute as almost everything connected to him is fun and smile-producing - even his coat! |
