Nail clipping
 
I thought I read to use nail clippers for cats when trimming the nails, is this true? Is there a certain brand or size? I just read this yesterday and now I can't find it...aaargh. I'm going to try clipping their nails, it seems like they are needing their nails clipped mre often for some reason.

I use one of those nail sander type things as I am such a wus I hate nail clipping my dog lately. I don't know what happened to me but can no longer clip Tibbe's nails! Do you think using cat clippers would make it easier?

It's all dependent on how thick your pup's nails are......

I usually start out with the kitty clippers, but at times have had to switch to a more heavy duty clipper....If you tip them weekly, you don't have to be frightened of hurting them.

Nail sander type things - is this a dremel?

I've never cut their nails as they go the groomer every six weeks. I moved it to five weeks because of their nails. The last time I took them to the vet in between the groomer. Now they are too long again. They go to the groomer tomorrow but I would like to try to clip them myself in between times, or all the time.

I want to try to do it weekly when I bathe them. When you say tip them, just clip the tips?

Also, are kitty clippers available at PetsMart? I never go to the cat section.

Yep, just the tips......the secret is to make sure you have a firm grip on each nail....not allowing them to move....this insures no vibration as you clip down.....the fibration is what they don't like.....

Yes, you can purchase them at PetsMart in the cat section....they looked like little angled scissors...I have the one's with a black grips....don't get the one's that are all stainless steel....they seem to slip.

I use an Oster Gentle Paws and use it every 3rd day or so, just sanding off the tips. If I wait a week to do it, takes a bit more filing than Tibbe likes at one time. I am not tense at all using this device.
