Just Dropped My Boys Off At the Groomer I generally have to make an appointment about 3 weeks in advance to visit the groomer so the late night thunderstorms and flooding kept me up all night thinking "how are we going to manage this tomorrow?". This morning I woke up to see the torrential rain continuing but we had to go. My bright idea of trying to grow Cooper's cottony coat into a luxurious show dog turned into a matted mess, even with daily hour brushings and several Madan brushes and combs. I asked Cooper if he wanted to get a haircut and he spun around so fast that one of the gates fell over nearly shooting Max in fear out the front window. Good start. Buddy Belts on and we head for the car. It was pouring but I managed to get Cooper in and then Max fairly quickly. I was soaked. Arrive at the groomer parking lot and 1 at a time the boys get out of the car. As I'm shutting the last back door, a tiny gorgeous Maltese gets carried out by it's owner at the adjacent car and I can see the fear on the man's face when he sees my attack dogs. I wanted to assure him that his dog would be safe:rolleyes: In we went and I spoke to the groomer for 1/2 an hour about what I was thinking. I realized that while we were standing there, I was the only wet dog. "Keep BOTH of their faces long. DO NOT CUT THEIR FACES OR TOP KNOTS OR MAKE BANGS". Oh I hope she heard me. She wrote it down. She decided to cut Cooper's body at a #3, leaving the face and tail long. She asked about a modified Schnauzer cut, which I do like but Cooper's issue is with his legs. She said she'll give a shot and try to thin out his hips, leaving some of it longer. Max is just going to get a trim, as I still want to try to grow him out. I'll post pictures when they come home. |
Hi, I'm trying to do the same thing.... grow his thick, curly, cotton coat out. Have you seen the Pek conditioner thread? Well, I was sent a sample and I love it. His coat is so soft and is laying much flatter. Not a big poofball like before. And no matts. He has an appointment at the groomers on the 9th and now I'm trying to figure out how to explain to her what I want. He's always been in a puppy cut. He's not long enough for a top knot yet. It's going to be interesting to say the least. But I want so much to have him in a longer coat even if it's just for a little while. |

Awww.. he's adorable. I may get him a shorter cut for the summer but I want his face to be long. I find it easier to brush him at nite. He sleeps with me and once on the bed he just lays there and seem to enjoy it before he falls off to sleep. |
It's been a while since I've seen pictures of Coop. His coat sure did get long and love the topknot he's growing. Can't wait to see pictures this afternoon. |
OMG they are still there:eek: It's like summer camp for them. They usually stay there for a while and all play with each other before they are groomed. I think Cooper would rather go to the groomer than the park. The house is so quiet and I want my boys back! |
I have decided to get Natalie's long coat cut too. She has a cottony coat and it is hard to take care of plus she gets so hot. I just pray it will grow back for the winter time. I want to keep her top knot. I have tried so hard to get her use to it and I don't want it cut. Anyways, now I know how to tell the groomer to cut her because of you. Thanks! |

Natalie's hair is thin. She does not mat as bad as she use to since I started using a different shampoo and conditioner. I got it from pet depot. The weather is in the 60s and 70s now and she is outside ALOT. She gets so dirty and I bathe her twice a week. I think she will do much better with it cut short. |
