Can You Help Me With Haircut Ideas for My Boys 3 Attachment(s) Cooper is my mixed breed Yorkie/Maltese mix. I haven't cut his hair in months. I've been attempting to grow it but it's a very cottony thick coat and with the summer heat quickly approaching I don't think it's going to work out. I also brush it about twice per day for at least 1/2 hour each time and still can't keep up with the mats. I have always cut his hair very short around his entire body including his face. But now I love the little top knot and his facial hair and want to keep that. So I'm thinking a short body (not shaved) and a longer face. I love his chin area but I'm just not sure how that gets blended. I don't know what to ask or show their groomer. I decided yesterday I'm going to continue growing Max's hair. His hair is so easy to manage and requires about a 2 minute brushing per day. I also don't think his hair will weigh him down in the summer. Here are pics of my boys (ignore the shoes:rolleyes:) If anyone has a short body/longer face pics I'd love for you to share. Attachment 340757Attachment 340758Attachment 340759 |
I just finished grooming Bogie my Biewer and he is a cotton coat and has horrible mats. I kept him in a long coat for over a year and I have to say, he is so much more comfortable with short hair. I felt guilty because the long hair was for me not for him. Here are a few pics I snapped just now of his cut. http://i741.photobucket.com/albums/x...3/100_1801.jpg http://i741.photobucket.com/albums/x...3/100_1792.jpg http://i741.photobucket.com/albums/x...3/100_1800.jpg |

Yeah I leave the hair on the legs and just trim around the feet. I have seen Yorkies with the hair on their nub left long and it is really cute. I use a 4fc blade on his body and a 7fc on his tummy. I just use scissors to trim up his facial hair and beard. |
Cooper's upper legs are probably the worst area for him. I love the way your boy looks but think I'd have to cut the whole body including legs. Thanks so much. It really helps to have a visual. |
Karen I think that cut would look totally cute on Cooper! I like it too when the body is cut very close and the legs are left a little fuller, with a longer face, so cute! |
4 Attachment(s) Nini is a Yorkie/Maltese mix too and looks so much like your babies :D I love her hair long, but she does get very flushed in the summer. So, I have to keep it shorter than I like. Weird, she gets 'blonder' in the summer :p Nicky (the Biewer) gets matted a lot, even in his tail and he looks tired with long face hair. I think my babies know when they look nice, they walk taller :D As if showing-off ? I'm still trying to find a groomer that will do what I want and not what she thinks is a better look for my babies  I hope you find one that won't disappoint you  |

3 Attachment(s) I cut morgan short all year long. Her body is very short while I let the leg length vary depending on the season. Her body I consider all the black parts so I even shave a little down her legs in the "V" pattern that it makes. This way her bum, hips, pits, and inner legs don't get matted. I also scissor her head to whatever length I feel like. Its usually short and round but has been longer in the past. Morgan has a soft plush cotton coat. Not silky at all. |

Thanks :D You're right, I wouldn't mind much about the looks either, if my babies would at least not go into flight mode every time we get close to one of the groomers' buildings. I don't trust one of them :( that's why we don't leave them, we wait for them. I'm learning how to do it myself  |

I just bought a decent set of clippers with some different size blades and started trimming. I figure the way the last groomer butchered them up and made them act strange for 2-3 days ( I think she was rough with them) I could mess it up myself and at least they are not in any stress.;) I have just been doing it for about 3 months and it gets easier each time I do it.:) |
Boy I really did a number on Sophie this weekend. She has the dreaded cottony coat and mats very easily. So I had her at the groomer and it was supposed to be a modified schnauzer. She wound up looking like she was wearing a mullet instead. So I thought I'll just trim that down farther. Well I went down a little too far on the legs and then had to cut them all the way back to even her off. :eek:She looks like she has mange. Her legs are kind of long looking now and like they would snap in the breeze. I keep telling myself it's only hair it will grow out. Right????? |

Last time I brought my babies to the groomer, I was so upset with the haircut, I told my hb to take care of the bill because I wasn't going to be nice about it. I left with my babies and didn't even look at the groomer again. I realized that I can chop them up like that myself too and like you say, at least they won't be stressed. I can't do any worse, so I'm learning :p Quote:
Riiiiiight ;) :lol tearsThat's how my two are going to look pretty soon with mommy on her learning curve. I've already got my speech ready, it starts with, 'well, do you prefer to go to those witches to get your hair cut, or would you rather mommy do it?" (bad mommy I am :p) |
