Ear Hair I have never had a problem pulling ear hairs and cleaning my babies' ears. However, I tried the same thing on my rescue, Hope, and she hates it! She yelped so I can't continue as I don't want to traumatize her. But, she needs it really bad, her ears are dirty and hairy. I thought pulling their ear hair doesn't hurt them because Carmel and Emma never yelped when I did it. Please help! I need to clean her ears and pull her hairs out...how do I do it when she yelps and cries when I do it? She will also try to bite me too! |
sometimes if they've never had it done before they will yelp and act like it hurts. its just different for them and they are not used to it. If her ears are really gross inside and you really think they need to be plucked then your just gonna have to get someone to hold her for you. only pluck a few hairs at a time. If her ears are relatively clean and your just cleaning them for maintenance then i wouldn't worry about the hair. if its not broke, don't fix it. :) |
x I don't know if I can help you and if I can expalin well because my american is bad :) I know some people use like a hemostatic forceps, but my girls don't like this way. My vet tought me to use only my fingers, few hair at a time, with a small movement not too strong but decided. During this process I reassure my girls with words and after I plucked hair give them a small treat; if Hope has many hair into ears it is not necessary to remove all in the same time, few one day, few another day and so on. I think that Hope is scared, try to reassure her as much as possible, you must have a lot of patience. I agree with kalina, try to get help from someone or if you do not succeed ask your vet if can do it for you :) |
When I got Buzz @ 4mo., his ears were, completely, full of thick hair! On his vet check, the tech took some kind of scissors and grabbed the whole bunch and twirled it around 'till it was all tight and pulled it out...OMG'sh, that poor baby screamed, and then he had to go through it, again, w/the other ear :( I ask if he would always have to have this done, and they said yes...HOWEVER, he is now one year and 8 months old, and it didn't grow back! I think they killed the roots, when they pulled it out...Maybe ask your vet if a tech, there, might be familiar w/this procedure... |
ooooooo, I just thought of something...if your rescue is going to have any kind of procedure ie:spay/neuter/dental, why not have the ear hair pulled out then? |

So, found out that Lucy has ear infections in both ears! Currently, she is receiving ear drops twice a day. Of course, that makes her face and around her ears really greasy. I want to bathe her but am worried about getting water in her ears. Any suggestions? I've thought about cotton balls . . |

Update:: Wow, I totally forgot I posted this...:p Well, I decided that it had to be done and had my bf helped me. YES, she YELPED like we were abusing her :rolleyes: It was DISGUSTING though. I honestly didn't think her ears were THAT bad...when I started cleaning it with a Qtip, there were CHUNKS of dirty stuff in her ear (don't worry I didn't go in deep). I took all the chunks out and then pour a few drops of ear cleaning solution in there. Then I followed up a week later and did the same thing...it looked A LOT better...I can't believe it...it had to have been a 3-5 year build up of CRAP in there. :mad: I couldn't believe my eyes too |
