Face washing? What is the best way to wash a yorkies face and make it smell nice and clean? |
Puppy tearless shampoo and a wet wash cloth :D |
I followed advice given here and started using BioGroom's Fluffy Puppy tearless shampoo on my boys' faces. The results were great. Cleans sticky beards very well, smells great, and isn't harsh. |
Can you get Biogroom at the pet sstores or do you need to order online? I have done the washcloth thing but for some reason they are still smelly after a bath, But I use baby shampoo, maybe too gentle? |

I love Espree facial cleansers, they are tearless also. It is a light foam and just dab it on, work it in then wipe off with a warm wet cloth. Espree Animal Products - Product Catalog |
Thank you alll for the replies. I ended up getting Biogroom Fluffy Puppy. It was the one our feed store carried at first glance. It worked beautifully. Some of these others that were mentioned I believe they carry as well. I may eventually try them all.:D |

I usually just use a little Fluffy Puppy on a wet wash cloth but sometimes it is an extra step or two to rinse it out well. Do you rinse these facial cleansers? I love Espree products so know I won't be disappointed, just not sure on which to order. |
I use Tropiclean D-mat on my dog. It gets out the tear gook and also is fantastic to clean the beard hair. I use a square cotton pad and spray a dab of the D-mat on it before applying to face and beard. Then I take a wide tooth comb and gently brush out tangles made by eye gook and also water stains on the beard due to drinking out of a water bowl. It brushes out soooo easy. To rinse away the D-mat, I wet another cotton pad, squeeze out most of the excess water and wipe her face again. To dry, I use a 3rd cotton pad and pat her face dry. |
Trying to wash face turned into a disaster! What to do? I tried to wash Teppi's face with her Tropiclean tearless shampoo (hypoallergenic). I tried to introduce her to all the things I would be using including the water. I put some of the shampoo on a soft wet cloth & the minute I touched her beard she began to fight & wouldn't stop. It just got worse from that moment on! She also fights me really bad when I try to comb or brush her. I have a comb & brush that a groomer @ Pet Smart said would be the best. Her shampoo has very little scent to it but I'm not worried about that. I would appreciate some advice on how to keep her calm when trying to wash her face & brush her. After about 5min. of trying to wash her face I gave up. She was fighting so bad I was afraid she was going to hurt herself or scare her away from baths, grooming, etc. even more. She's going to the groomer in a couple of days so she'll get clean & prettier there but I want to be able to groom her @ home. I did a little clipping on a few areas that needed it but my Mom had to hold her & she still fought some. Any suggestions? :( Also, I read somewhere not to use scented shampoo on a Yorkie because it could cause skin problems. Is this true or does it matter if you use scented products to clean her up? Some advice would be really helpfull. I've had other puppies/dogs in the past (not Yorkies) & never had such a problem trying to groom them. (chows & Shih Tzus) |

How old is Teppi? You might have to work with her, train her to accept grooming. Go slowly, and be patient, calm, confident, and reassuring. Talk to her, tell her what you are going to do, praise her when she is calm, and offer treats when she behaves correctly. Work on grooming when she worn out after a play session or a walk. Don't attempt it when she is full of energy. Make grooming a relaxing and pleasant experience. I incorporate a lot of massage into the bathing and combing process. Careful with water and shampoo near eyes and ears. Be sure to rinse very well to make sure nothing is in the eyes. Hope some of this helps. |

The one thing she loves and has loved since she was a baby is to have her face washed though. It's pretty cute.:) |

My boys aren't crazy about the process of washing their faces, but they like the end result of feeling clean and they love the attention. By the time we are finished bathing and blow drying, they are like butter melting. Then I give them a bed fresh from the laundry and they go off to dreamland. :p |
how do you rinse all the shampoo off of their faces/heads without getting water in their ears? especially if they're really skiddish during bathtime |

That sounds ideal! Funny thing! Muffin always stayed on the mat until my bath was over. Kacee wants no part of it. She won't even go in there, if she thinks it's my bath time.:D |

I love BioGroom's Fluffy Puppy, but it has to be ordered online. Espree has a tearless shampoo available at Petco. |
Teppi is still squirming & eating me alive everytime I try to groom her or wash ANYTHING! Doesn't matter what I do. I keep coming up with new ideas but nothing works. Baby steps, I guess. lol I can only get a little done each day when I catch her taking a nap or bedtime & washing anything is out of the question. She looks fine & smells so we'll just have to keep working @ it. lol :heart to Pam & Teppi :yorkiej: |
:D Sorry, meant to say she looks fine & smells fine. My mistake. lol |
I have been using just a warm wash cloth and water, but thanks for everone advise on the wash to use to on their beards and to smell fresh again. I am going to order some. I had to start sloww too with the brushing. Jack would not in the beggining stand for it. After going to the groomer he got better the after he seen me brushing Josie he thinks she is getting more attention then him. So now I try to hide when I brushing one cause then they both want to be brushed and waller (sp) all over me then it turns into play. They usually come up to me to be brushed in the morning when they see me getting dressed and doing my hair. |
