Assuming dry skin? So Rylie has little flakes of what I assume is her dandruff/dry skin. I've been really careful about not over-bathing her, so I don't think it is from that. I read somewhere/heard once that it can be due to her being a puppy and she'll grow out of it? That doesn't sound quite right to me. She doesn't seem bothered by it (not itching, etc.), but it bugs me that she could be having skin issues. Do you think it is the type of product I use? Would a leave-in conditioner, such as The Stuff Conditioner & Detangler, help at all (I currently do not use one)? Just looking for some insight. :) Thanks! |
Flakes can also be from product you've used on her hair. |
Well I've been using Espree products. I absolutely love them and Rylie's done really well with them, but if they are leaving flakes I may have to reconsider my choice. |

The most common cause of dry skin, is usually not rinsing off the shampoo enough as Debra said. Another thought, sometimes nervousness can create dry flakes. Our princess, only gets white flakes when she is on a show weekend. The rest of the time she is just fine in terms of flakes So my approach would be first change nothing in diet or shampoos, but next shampoo, rinse , rinse , rinse, and then rinse some more. Dry the hair throughly, use a grooming spray, and then see what is what in terms of skin. Then try some of what FlDebra suggested, by the way, you will need to wait about 3wk-4wks to judge if it is indeed helping |
Thanks for the help everyone! I will try the things suggested here. The problem may very well be rinsing. I rinse her a lot (well I think anyway), but I try to get her out of the bath ASAP because I worry about her getting chilled. I will try rinsing her more next time. Glad to hear it isn't the Espree though, I really like it! Love the advice here! :2hearts2: |
