Color in cotton coats? I have determined that Shadow has a cottony coat. Her eyes definitely flash red in pictures and her coat if pretty thick. It has some shine and I've kept it short so far, she's only 7 months old, but was wondering about color. I read that cottony coats don't achieve the "steel blue" colors at maturity. Is this true? I know that both her parents have the coloring, but not sure about coats. Also, what products work best on a cotton coat? |
Zhoie has a cotton coat. I have a whole bath cabinet of products, errr. I have determined the two I like best is Chris Christensen & Iv San Bernard. |
Thanks, anywhere in particular to get the best price? |
Morgan is a cotton coat too. She is 4.5 years old now and isn't as black as she was when she was a puppy, but isn't steel blue either. Here are before and after pictures. I too have TONS of products for her hair. Nothing will make it silkier or give it that shine of a silky coat. I like chris christensen clean start and after bath on her coat. |
2 Attachment(s) whoops, forgot to attach the pictures. |
Cottony coats usually have a duller (sometimes brownish cast) than silky coats. I have never seen a cotton steel blue. Another way to tell is temperature. A silky coat will stay sort of cool to the touch while the cotton coat heats up. Now any dog out in the FL sun for long will heat up so this is not a foolproof method either. ;) |

Product I like best for the soft coated yorkie will have to be the Yorkie Splash and Shine complete set (including detangler). It's the only thing that has given Kaji's coat some shine (not a silky shine, but it looks nice). Plus it made his coat softer, not that I thought that was possible! :) |
