What is the best thing to use for ear cleaning?
 
I'm wondering what to use to clean my boys ears, Jesse's especially since his seem to get more debris in them. Thanks for any suggestions :)

I've found keeping the hair plucked from inside their ear canal greatly reduces wax and dirt build up and gentle swabbing with q tips....not too deep... after a bath keeps them clean.

Your vet can provide you with ear cleaner also.

I've just recently plucked Jesse's ear hair for the first time, Hopefully it should stay cleaner now, that's probably why Bailey's are always so clean, he doesn't have ear hair inside!

The best ear cleaner I've found is Vet Solutions Ear Cleaner, it's a cleaner with a drying agent, acidifies the ear. Use it after every bath.

I really like Dr. Gold's Ear Cleaner (from PetSuppliesPlus). I squirt some in, massage the ears and then bathe the girls as normal.

I usually just use a QTip after their baths, but I have also used some hydrogen peroxide to dampen the QTip if I find a dirty ear. They are usually pretty clean, but occasionally I have gotten some gunk on the QTip. That is when I follow up with a couple more QTips dipped in hydrogen peroxide. I have never bought the commercial ear cleaners. This is for a good healthy ear and not to be used as an inner ear wash. If you need to go beyond where you can see, I suggest getting a vet recommended ear wash solution.

I use a lot of hydrogen peroxide. It is a great wound cleaner, mouth wash, disinfectant, cleaner, toothbrush cleaner you name it! I like using vinegar, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide whenever I can instead of all the commercial chemicals. They work just as good or better and are much better for the environment and living things!

Me too, My place smells like vinegar alot! I always use Baking Soda for a cleaning scrub rather then commercial too, which I find very harsh on surfaces. I will have to try the HP tonight since I have it on hand!

Keeping the ear canal clear of hair is a must if your dog is prone to ear infections, especially if the hair in the canal is more cottony and thick. Morgan just has a few silky hairs in her ears so i leave them alone. Plus she's never had an ear infection (i also rarely clean her ears...). If it ain't broke, don't fix it. LOL

anyway, for ear cleaner i like the espree one. smells good to me and i like their product line up. I do want to try the CC one Mystic Ear and the oxyfresh one Oxyfresh.com | Pet Care | Pet Ear Cleaner . they look like nice gentle ear cleaners.

I just pluck the hair out of Bella's ears and use a ear cleaner that I got from my vet after every bath...but I think plucking the hair out is key to keeping clean ears, it really is a must with our yorkies.

My Vet office recommends "Virbac" Epi-Otic Ear Cleanser.

We have been using Biogroom Ear cleaner for several years after baths and I like it alot. I sometimes use a dampened q tip in between baths also and I dampen it with witch hazel.

Here's something I read here a long time ago, if you get an ear wash.

Drip liquid into both ears, and then hold the ear flaps down for about a minute. Make sure the liquid has dripped fully into the ears before folding the flap, as this closes access to the canal.

After a minute, release the ears. Your dog will shake his head, which will help the dissolved dirt move out of the inner ear. Then gently swab the ear folds and the the flap with a q tip.

I'm lucky: Thor's ears pretty much never get dirty. I don't even pluck the ear hair. I bought this special wash from the vet, and I think in two years, I found wax in one ear, one time.
