Stand Dryers
 

Hi all, just thought I'd share, how having a dryer that you can put on a stand, makes blowdrying the Yorkies so much easier, as you have two hands to work with.

Andis makes one, and I did purchase one, it worked well, but the stand was made of cheap plastic, and with three dogs running in and out of the grooming room, the inevitable happened, and it got bounced off the table and the stand broke!.

So, there I was, needing to blow dry a wet YOrkie, what to do? Well I have a C.C. (Chris Christensen) amazing blow dryer for our large BRT;s. it has a CC flexible arm. This model is square, and not so compact but the thing is, it goes from a whisper like air flow, to something akin to a tempest:D So I put the large grooming table near the small one, and used that dryer on Razz man. The nozzle went onto the flexible arm, and in less than no time Razz was dried, with an incredible sheen to the coat.
Now these forced air dryers don't use warm or even hot heat, the air is coolish exiting the nozzle. I did have to use a hand dryer for his face, but that was more a function of lack of space to orient the arm correctly.

So anyhow for those of you like myself who have large and small dogs, and own one of these CC dryers, give it a try one day.

Thank you for this info Gail. I to had an Andis with the plastic stand and first the stand broke and then the dryer would over heat and turn off. I had been looking at the Airforce dryers that petedge sells and was contemplating getting one. Then I got the CC catalog in the mail and they had the dryers advertised and of course when I saw that one was in purple I was 70% sure I wanted one. But now after reading your post I am 100%sure I am getting one. Thank you

I have an Andis dryer too with a stand and have found that it tends to overheat if I have it on a high heat setting. Lately I just leave it on medium and it seems fine. That C. C. blow dryer sounds great! I could sure use something like that with my three girls. I'd love to speed up the drying time needed with the three of them. :D

It is the squarish model and quite pricey? That is why I think it might not do for a single Yorkie family, over 200 dollars here in Canada, and the arm is somewhere around $100.

I used the CC on about 1/3 to 1/4 turn up and on his body first. the hair just floated up and away, and I was able to mold the hair, brush it, and gosh the volumne I got. But what I was tickled pink about was doing the legs and paws. I would often get the turn up of the hair on the paws, well with two hands and directing the airflow, for once all that hair once dried sat down as nice as you please.

Get the CC arm it is so flexible it bends every which way you need. Great arm I highly recommend it.

Well with three YT's it is worth the cost investment. These things are workhorses. Most of the pro groomers of large coated breeds have them, and for many years too. Just be advised their is no HOT air or even warmish air, they are forced air dryers, and use cool air. Just adjust the volumne of air flow more on body, less on legs, or even less on face. It takes a bit of getting used to, but so worth the effort!

I can see how the professional would love this -- I would love it too but can't quite justify the cost for mine. The Kool Pup Dryer is $275 and the Kool Dry Dryer is $375 and then the arm is another $75.

But if I was showing, I would probably think about it seriously as I know the forced air would really give that nice straight shiny look faster than a regular dryer and I love the "no heat" idea. It is the heat that damages their hair. I tend to let mine air dry a lot just for that reason. But they do not look near as good that way. A forced air dryer like these would be the best of both worlds.

Well tis true it is pricey. I thought long and hard, but I have two very large show dogs, and my male particularly has a Huge coat. I used to spend 2 -2.5 hours blow drying him and this after 1.5 hours washing him out for show, then of course the scissoring, it was an all day event, that I broke into two days. Then when I got my female, I said, got to find a solution. And it was this blow dryer.

I agree, for one dog, unless you have lots of bucks, it is just too pricey. But even with three Yorkies, it would earn back it's price pretty soon.

I'm looking for a good travel stand dryer for shows when I just have the Razz man. We like when we only show the Yorkie, everything is so compact compared to our BRT;s. But hubby who is my BOB says hon, we can take the CC with us and the arm, not to much extra to lug around:D

I must admit I'm a nut about grooming. It is what I love the most about owning show dogs. The washing, the clean clean coat, the loverly smell of a groomed dog, the sheen that you get from good food, exercise, products, and just all that love and attention you give your pups. All my dogs, just love to get up on the grooming table. It means treats, and time with Mom. Lots of massage and loving.

I would love to watch you groom your yorkies. Mine do not enjoy grooming time and I know it is because of my lack of expertise. Ben does not even like the daily brushing, let along the shampoo, trim, blow dry and full style. I don't know why, he never has. Annie (my almost 4+ month old) already is doing much better than Ben. What is funny, is Candy (Jack Russell terrier) LOVES being brushed. She is always trying to get in between me and the yorkies when they are getting groomed, can't wait for her turn and then wants another. She would let me brush her smooth coat for hours if I would. The one that doesn't need much at all wants an all day groom! I figure I really need to watch a pro and see what I am doing wrong. It may not be that I am doing it wrong, but maybe Ben can sense I am not fully comfortable. He does okay during the bath & ears, but starts getting antsy as soon as I try to trim any hair. So, I usually just take him in to the groomers for the full cuts. Still, I have totrim a little here and there in between.

I agree if I was showing, I would have to have this dryer. For now, I will make due with my little Andis with the cheap plastic. I just wish it had the flexible arm. That would be great. Maybe I could start with the CC arm! Hmmmm.....gears working.

Well first off, there are some dogs even though trained young will just put up with the grooming. Kind of like, yeah Mom, I know you have to do this, but I don't like it , don't like it, don't like it. My first show BRT was like this, from 8 wks old, he was groomed wkly by me, bi monthly by a professional, and still it is only now 3 1/2 yrs later that he wants to be on the table. Partly I think he is jealous, as we retired him from showing, and are other 3 are getting lots of time on the table:D

For the my Yorkie, he was trained by his breeder from very young to be groomed, and I simply kept up the grooming. But he truly loves the attention, and the kisses. I think the trick is to keep patient, to just love your dog as you are blowdrying, trimming, clipping, whatever.

I want to do a video soon, about grooming, for the Yorkie but also for the BRT. Not for the "show" dog/exhibitor, but for the passionate folks that own this breed, and want a good looking dog. Tools of the trade are so important, and knowing how to use them, can make a whole lot of difference for the amateur groomer.

I will definately keep an eye out for that. I had one grooming video but gave it to my DIL. I am not the most coordinated person in the world. So that may be 1/2 my battle. :)

Gail, I think you should do a video and sell it. There aren't that many available, especially for non-exhibitor Yorkie enthusiasts.

I desperately need a stand dryer, but I cannot justify the CC deluxe model. Besides, I have nowhere to store it. The dogs have already taken over too many cabinets and closets. :p

Has anybody used this dryer? It's really cheap and it doesn't look terrible. I wish it came in pink, but I guess I'll have to live with blue...

I have the Oster Table/Cage dryer. I got it at the recommendation of my breeder. I love it. I put it on a table beside my grooming table and it works great. My breeder recommended it because it was less expensive than the stand dryer and it can be portable to use at shows. It's very sturdy and seems well made.
