I don't know if it makes a difference, but Kaji is a boy and I want to start getting him use to a topknot. I'm only going to grow his hair out once (even though I originally said NEVER :rolleyes:) so I'm hoping to get this right. I have no idea how to place one properly, and how much hair to grab. He's wearing a ponytail now and looks like he has a fountain on top of his head because it's still a little short. :p

Anyway, any tips? Pics would be appreciated. :D

OMG that 2nd pic was soooo cute!!! I saved it in my official too cute folder on my desktop. yes i actually save my fave cute pics from YT.

When I was first doing Uni's topknot for the first few times I did the same, pulling too far apart, but that was to try and make her topknot thicker since her hair is so thin. Since Kaji has such thick hair, I think you'll be fine using less hair. (so I agree with Debra) :)

You've done a great job! Joey's forehead hair was almost grown out, and I started using a new product and pretty much ruined the forehead hair, and his breeder thought I cut it. Do not use "got 2 be glued". It really holds the hair, for a whole week, in fact, but when you wash it out hair is noticeably shorter. So now I'm doing the band closer to the nose, instead of high on the head.

I am having some serious problems -- first I removed my whole post. Then I can't get the video right! Computer challenged. Yes, from inner corners. Some do wider top knots, but I think it looks cleaner and is easier to mamage, especially when they are growing out, to take from inside eye corners.

Kaji is too cute for words with his little topknot. I'm the same way - I said I'd never let Levi's hair get long, but I am finding it hard to resist (especially with little cuties like Kaji running around with topknots!) :)

I like it better the other way. I always do mine from the outer corners of the eyes. Your first pics looked pretty good to me - especially that second pic. Too cute!!

Sorry Katy, totally missed your post yesterday. Kaji's "topknot" is looking more like a palm tree. :rolleyes: :D

Kaji looks adorable in his topknot. :) I like the first pictures too. That naughty little Kaji is such a ladies man. ;)

When you make your topknot how much hair do you take from the ears back? It looked like the show topknots had some hair from the back of the head combed up and into the topknot. It just seems like Bogey's is so thin, short and just doesn't seem to be growing. :(

Good question! I was wondering the same while doing his ponytail this morning. His hair in the back is long too. Shoot, he can have a low "ninja" ponytail too if he wants.

Ohhhh Kaji is so cute! Max's hair looks like he has a spider coming out from his eyes. I too am struggling with his top knot. I don't know how far back on the head to go like megansmomma says. The hair from the corner of his eyes is too short to go back at all, really.

I think it resembles a palm tree too!:ip:

It's different on each one of mine, depending on how thick or long their hair is or what look I want. I had to practice a lot to finally get it down like I wanted it. It's really an individual preference I think - just practice until you find the look you like.

Max looks adorable! He's got a nice little top knot growing in there. :)

Thanks. I'll keep trying. He's going for his first haircut next week, so some of that black puppy hair will come off. His problem though is the corner of the eyes. It's too short for top knot but too long for him to be able to see.

I really don't know, I thought you made the part in front of the ears and combed the rest of it back, especially if you are doing a low flat topknot that is closer to the nose. However when Joey was younger and had thinner hair, I put the whole thing in a topknot. Lol, pet owner rules are different than show owner rules.

I have to practically use Uni's entire head to get a little sprig. She's got more hair on her ears. maybe i should be doing sideknots.

I think for Bogey it's more that the groomer is cutting the hair too short on the back of his head. I think the next visit I'm going to ask her to keep it a little longer. Whenever I take them I leave a list of instructions. Don't do this, leave that to grow, make sure that you do this........I'm probably her biggest PITA customer but I want my babies to look good. :animal-pa
