almond oil; essential or base? i had always assumed that kukis coat was too fine and difficult to work with to be long coat, but after going to see my 1st proper show and talking to some of the exhibitors (one whos dog was almost identical to kuki in every way including coat apparently!) he told be that kuki could have a perfect coat with the use of almond oil- that what he uses on his girl to get results; so i'm currently in the middle of ordering some, but do i need essential oil or a carrier/base almond oil? he showed me how to do the crackers too, so i'll be giving that a go when i get the oil!! |
Crackers? I wish I wasn't stage scared and could do shows. |

i'll have a year or so before i can even think about showing kuki - so plently of time to panic! lol. but it will only be local shows etc, more to get me used to showing a dog before i (hopefully) get my show girl!!! i'm assuming its the base oil i have to use... if anyone knows differently, Please let me know! i hope i get the results i'm hoping for- if not, it'll be a puppy cut for kuki :( |
I've heard of using Moroccan oil (Argan) and mink oil, but not almond, so I'm not sure which you would need. It works, I'm sure as the others do to condition and protect the coat as it grows lol...you had me curious about "crackers" too. I thought they were probably the same as our "wrappers" (not to be confused with the musical kind - rapper:D). Good luck with the oil and wrapping.....you'll have to let us know if it's working.:) |
Are you talking about the type of essential oils that you buy in a health food store? The ones in the little bottles? If so, those are generally meant to be mixed in to some kind of base oil/emollient because they can burn the skin if applied directly. |

i've only been able to do the topknot for a short time and shes still getting used to that! so i'm just gonna start of with that for a wee bit longer before trying her whole coat- its not like i'm trying to get her ready of crufts- just gettin me used to doing it. i really do widh i had decided to start this when she was a baby- it would have made it way easier! |
Some dogs like almond oil too much. I would stay away from this if I needed a show coat. :D |
I do lots of work with essential oils in my yoga program. Almond oil is a base oil (or a carrier oil) not an essential oil. |
