Try working them out with cornstarch and a good comb. |
might want to try this Winston is 5 months, I am using Crown Royale shampoo and conditioner. I use their Ultimate Detangling Spray and it works wonderful!!! My groomer told me to use the medal comb I bought and go easy and get the lower tangles first. Then work on the ones closer to his skin. I am not going to say it didn't take a long time because yes it did but it was worth it. Yorkies should be comb daily. If you find a tangle wet it first because pulling their hair is like doing that to ours. The hair breaks off or leaves the ends in a mess. After you wash your puppy get a good detangler to use and see if it helps. I tried the cornstarch and baby powder, it works but Winston had too much baby hair that was knotted. Hope this helps.:aimeeyork |
I brush them every night while watching TV. I will use the wire brush, spray them with a detangler and work slowly. I put a greenie between my knees and they sit and chew and don't mind me brushing them out. (I know, I know - ther is a lot of controversy on the greenies - but I have been using them for years - and my dogs love them). |
I love the Madan brushes. Using it regularly, I can avoid mats. On the occasion where I have allowed one to build up (and some of the puppy hair mats VERY easily!) I rub in a little conditioner. The slimy types work well for this (like Cowboy Magic Detangler). Then gently pull apart the mat with your fingers and then run a comb through. |
yorkies do need to be brushed and combed on daily basis. i keep magic in the show coat so it can become a nightmare if i am not faithful. i have been using yorkie splash and shine for awhile and it works well. does anyone know how to disinfect brushes and combs. i also use the maddan pin brushes and the madan combs but i would like to clean them sometimes and i do not know what people use. they have to get dirty and i would like to disinfect. anyone have any info on this? |

King Research - Ship-Shape Comb and Brush Cleaner or more info on it here: http://www.barbicide.com/ship-shape_box.html I have used it on my own brushes and combs in the past. Haven't used it on the dog brushes and combs. I had forgotten I had a box of it. Hmm wonder if it is still good after all these years, been in the cupboard under the bathroom sink for several years. |

In terms of the pins, and the bottom of the brush head; I soak a comb in vinegar and water and then comb through the pins. I hope this works for you |
I wash the brushes and combs in the same shampoo that I use on my pups. For tangle and mats, I carefully pull them apart with the end of a rat tail comb. Do this only if your dog accepts grooming well. Too dangerous on a wiggly dog. Hold the hair with one hand so that the skin isn't pulled and work the rat tail comb with your other hand. I also use PetSilk Silk serum occasionally to loosen up a knot right before a bath. |
