Natural Flea Conrol Products Hi, I have a 2 year old yorkshire terrier that keeps scratching himself. I was wondering what natural products would you recommend for a shampoo and a flea repelling spray for my yorkie. I want to control his fleas but not poison him. Thanks & all the best, Viet |
I know exactly how you feel. I have two Yorkies who kept scratching after they got fleas from my parents' dogs. I looked all over for a natural flea remedy and here's what I found: Small quantities of garlic daily discourages fleas from drinking the dog's blood; Diatomaceous Earth can be sprinkled on the dog and around the house - it is a fine powder and I found it very unpleasant (it smells like dirty dog, lol); Some companies manufacture natural flea remedies and I've tried a natural oil one, but it didn't work for a heavy infestation and my dogs hate the smell; Eucalyptus or Teatree Oil mixed with water can be sprayed all over the house - fleas hate the smell. These oils can also be added to their shampoo and conditioner; In South Africa, they use Khakibos as a natural flea repellant. I haven't tried it yet, but it's next on my list of things to try. We are just entering flea season over here and I am going to start getting my flea repellants ready again. I hope that helps. I want to add that although I tried all of these methods, the chemicals won in the end. We had such a heavy infestation that I had to take desperate measures when the natural remedies didn't clear things up quickly - I used Revolution for Cats (my vet recommended it). I am not planning to use it again though. |
Check out the cedar oil products. They are the safest (they don't smell that great at first, but I use lavandar oil to counteract the smell) and are VERY effective. |

I also feed dexter a raw diet which is supposed to help keep fleas from wanting to bite. |
Oh boy don't get me started on Natural Flea Control. Although I use Confortis too because I live in florida and I swear fleas here could survive an atomic bomb. I use Flea Free it is AMAZING!!! It goes in their food I used it for a good 2 weeks straight and now I use it maybe every week maybe once a month. I also use shampoo bars (groomer's choice and special needs soap, both have flea replants in it). These have all worked amazingly.
